September 1, 200818 yr I remember one of my favorite John Grisham books that dealt with the death of a young black girl at the hands of 2 white men and that it was fairly graphic in its description of the crime and the results. Should we fear that stories/writings like this could lead to people taking it seriously and perhaps doing a "copycat" crime? Should a writer like Grisham be charged with a crime for potentially causing something to happen this is grotesque and illegal?

Music, movies, games, or novels do not cause a person to act in heinous ways - that person does. And where would we even begin to draw the line as to what can and cannot be published?

September 1, 200818 yr I'd bet Clyde doesn't believe that. He seems like the last guy who would support censorship. He was probably trying to foster discussion- fortunately, I think most of us would say "NO" that we should not charge people in this case.

The lot of them were banned for political content. Here is a good list.
September 1, 200818 yr I've read 28 of those books. :lol: I've also read the book Clyde references, A Time to Kill. I consider it the best of all John Grisham's books.

It is disgusting, and it should offend everyone. But, “If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that the government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable" (Justice William Brennan).
