DuPont Manual 34 Lou. Central 28

Featured Replies

Pete, did the better team win this game? Sounded like Central handed it to Manual in the final five minutes.

Both teams appeared to shine during different parts of the game and have a really tough time with fundamentals during other parts of the game. All did appear to be lost for Manual when Central snapped it into the endzone. I'd put the whiffed punt under first game jitters (who practices that) - had he tossed it out of bounds the game would have been tied with about 1:30 remaining.

Congrats to Manual for getting past a tough Central team.:dancingpa

They did have it... but then they gave it away.

Very close game the whole way through. It looked as if Manual was trying to avoid the Central front by throwing a lot of swing passes and airing it our early, however Manual's receivers dropped balls left and right all night long. Manual looked like they were in control late in the second quarter with a 13-0 lead but a half ended TD run put the Jackets back into the game.

Central score three long TD around the right hand side, looked like Manual needed to work on pursuit angles.

Central had a 28-26 lead late into the 4th quarter when the Central long snapper flew the ball over the punters head resulting in a Manual TD and 2pt conversion to go ahead 34-28.

Very close game that Central gave away with turnovers, the two teams looked very evenly matched and both will probably have very successful seasons.

Manual Defense gave up long TD's for the wrong reasons but otherwise played pretty good. They made up for TD's by causing the turnovers that allowed Manual to get back into the game. Given a little more time to jell and paying attention in practice and I think this could be a very good physical Manual defense later in the season.

The Manual offense has to catch the simple passes or they will find themselves in trouble in big games. RB D.J. Hawk looked good today, I don't know what his stats were but he carried the team. I would like to see a few more weapons emerge from the Manual offense.

I was on my way out there tonight when the little lady started getting sick, so PepRock did not get to see this game or hang out with one of the mythical Ram Brothers either. Much to his chagrin.

I help film in place of ram95 who couldn't be there, and I don't know that ram2003 went to the game (if he did I didn't see him). So even if you had made it you probably wouldn't have seen us.

Congratulations to the RAM CREW!

The Crimsons have lost so many of these close games in the past, you were due to finally win one. See you all later this year in Tigertown! :thumb:

Let me amend this some, it isn't that Hawk didn't have a good game but I think I was attributing much of James Clays contribution to Hawk. Clay was actually the leading rusher with 93yrds and two TD's.

I didn't mean to imply the punter for Central whiffed on a punt, the snap went way over his head and into the endzone, he was running trying to get to it and tried to kick it while it was on the ground and he whiffed then, and Manual DE Nick Brown jumped on it for the TD. If he had been able to knock it out of the endzone it would have been a safety and the game would have been tied and Central freekicking to Manual with 1:37 left.

It was a wild game with both teams scoring on big plays. The first quarter ended in a 0-0 tie with both teams punting on every possession. Then Manual takes the lead on a 70 yard run by James Clay, Clay was bottled up at the line with someone grabbing his ankle, he somehow shook loose and broke free for 70. Central fumbles on 3rd down the next possession and Manual scored 4 plays later - 25 yard pass, Harness to Hawk. then the teams traded punts, and then Central turned it over on downs on their own 30, Manual then missed a 41 yard field goal with 1:49 left but appeared to be fully on control. On first down Central QB Diaz goes 80 yards for a TD. The half ends with Manual ahead 13-7 and momentum is swinging towards Central.

On the first play from scrimmage in the second half Diaz again goes 80 yards for a TD, Central leads 14-13. Manual punts and on first down Chance Hughes breaks free for a 72 yd run. Central now appears had momentum firmly on their side and is killing us with the big play. Manual is forced to punt and Central is driving when Hughes is stripped and Manual takes over on their own 42. Manual puts together a 5 play 58 yard drive capped by Clay's 24 yd td run. the 2pt pass attempt fails and Central leads 21-19.

Central again seizes momentum mounting a 9 play 80 yard scoring drive, Chance Hughes scores on a 44 yard run, a phantom pass interference call on Manual kept the drive alive.

After the kickoff Harness is rolling out to pass and while throwing is nailed by Mister Cobble, the pass is intercepted by Rico Allen. Central is forced to punt and a bad snap results in the punter being tackled for a big loss, Manual takes over on the Central 28, down 9 points and 3:18 left on the clock.

4 plays later Marcus Helm scores on a 18 yard run, and Manual closes the gap 28-26. Central is again forced to punt and a bad snap goes into the endzone, Nick Brown recovers. Central throws a int on first down, Manual loses 16 yards on 4 clock killing plays then Central takes over on downs with 25 seconds left and again throws a pick on first down, Manual downs it, game over.

Central did kind of give it away, but it seemed similar to last years game between these two or any game with 2 decent teams playing but where one is in a bigger class and a little deeper with less 2 way players. I was sitting next to Frakes in the box and with about 5 minutes to go I pointed out to him that if you didn't know the score or the stats and just walked into the game it looked like Manual was winning even though they were down 9. It was a timeout and Manual was ready for play and standing in a circle, while the Central players were spread out, some being stretched, all their heads down, hands on knees etc. Also the 4th quarter had lots of stoppages for cramping players from Central.

Central is again a very good team.

Did Mister Cobble play? If not...when do they expect him back?

Hopefully Central bounces back strong...They have a lot of talent and will once again go a long way in the playoffs.

He played and played very well, looks like he is in mid season form!

"I'm sure (Central) feels like they should have won, and I don't know that I don't feel the same," said Crimsons coach Joe Nichols,
