Corbin/Pikeville Predictions

Corbin 34

Pikeville 17

I admit I do not know much about Pikeville other than what I have heard from a Pikeville alum or two. I could be totally off base.

It's at Pikeville, so I am going to give the edge to the Panthers.

It will be close, but I think they win at home.

WOW!:scared:

Pikeville must be down a lot more than a little if you are picking Corbin to pop their skulls to the tune of 27 points. Did they have about everyone graduate or leave or something like that?

They have Daniel Harmon(their #1 rusher)and 2 or 3 of the starting offensive line returning plus several defensive starters. They lost a similar amount to graduation as Corbin, so they won't be down too much.

Pikeville has some things about them to really like, for example the best football player in this game will be RB/DB Daniel Harmon. They have some excellent athletes returning at skill spots, they have large line for a 1A team, and overall good team speed and athleticism.

Pikeville though has major questions that could be a positive, or a negative, but we won't know until they actually take the field.

First off they have a new coach and a new system.

Secondly, gone is Uber-athletic QB Tim Honaker and brother Ted. In steps in Blake Branham. Tim took alot of criticism in his career for his pension for fumbling and forcing plays, he also was known to get a little red under the collar and cost them valuable penalty yards. Branham showed flashes of being a solid QB when he stepped in for Honaker last season.

Third, Pikeville really struggled against physical teams up front last season such as Pburg, Belfry, etc... they lost a handful of those linemen and have gotten several new faces out to practice this offseason. Pikeville fans seem to think they will be upgraded in the trenches, but IMO this remains their biggest question mark.

It seems to me Panther faithful seem shocked when the notion that Corbin will beat them is brought up, I personally think that Corbin is just a little too deep and strong and will win 28-14.

This will be a much better game than most people think. Corbin 21 Pikeville 13

Corbin simply needs to show up ready to play and if they do that they will be fine. They need to play with a chip on their shoulder to revenge the somewhat embarrasing loss we suffered from Belfry last year. We need to play REDHOUND FOOTBALL and not let ourselves be intimidated. Pikeville will have a good team we just need to play our game --- not theirs.

If we do this we come home with a W in the column.

I thought Corbin played very well last year, they just got beat by a better team. No disgrace in stepping up in class and playing that Belfry team to a 21-0 game, especially considering how dominating Belfry's defense was throughout the season.

Of course, if that memory motivates you to take it out on Pikeville, well, there's not too many Pirate fans who would want to stand in your way of that. :D :sssh:

Pikeville will win this one Corbin lost too many key players.

Should be a very interesting game. Pikeville returns 6 to 8 key players on both sides of the ball as do the Redhounds. Pikeville has a huge line. Corbin has a punishing ground game that can wear on you as the game reaches the final minutes. If the Hounds can control the clock and keep getting five yards each hand off then they could come away with the win. The game being played at Pikeville will no doubt be in favor of the Panthers. It is their bowl game, with a big crowd and I am sure their players are hungry to take the field for a new season with a new head coach. The Hounds will need to be able to contain the Pikeville air game. Corbin can not turn the ball over and hope to win on the road against a quality opponent. If the Panthers can make the short throws and get some yards after catch, then they can move the ball effectively. I can not see either team winning this one by a large margin. I would say a game in the twenties would be correct. Being a homer, I will take Corbin 22 Pikeville 18 with the game being decided in the fourth quarter.
