Oh stop. :D You guys easily handled a pretty good Moeller team in your scrimmage, a Moeller team that a lot of GCL folks think will win the GCL this year (I work downtown surrounded by huge Elder and X football fans).

Yes I know you are inexperienced this year. So is X as you know. And with that inexperience comes the need to defend the triple option right out of the chute. Very, very difficult to get ready to defend something you don't see very often particularly when you are struggling just to make the adjustments of first year starters. Don't get me wrong, Colerain will leave the ball on the carpet some, as its inexperienced players get seasoned. If Massa plays, I question how effective he'll be and how much Specht will let him do. Plus, X's best O linemen isn't playing at all, correct?

Still saying Colerain in a close one.

I wouldn't say easily at all. Did we win, yeah. But it was a scrimmage. And the last one before our games start. I am pretty sure Moeller wasn't going to show the Princeton and St. Xavier coaches in the house anything as they play both teams this year so I don't necessarily think they unloaded their full arsenal of weapons (just peed my pants laughing...sorry).

I understand the option is hard to defend but these kids have seen it at X. They have film, they have seen it at the Freshman and JV levels (Colerain and X play almost every year at those levels) so it won't be nearly as foreign to them as you might think. Plus, St. Xavier students are generally pretty smart kids so they understand the need to do what is necessary on defense (i.e. don't overpursue, stay in your lanes) to win. Most teams struggle with that and if you miss one assignment against one of our backs or QB, well, it's more than 3 yards and a cloud of dust. :D

I appreciate your enthusiasm and I hope you will be making the trek over to Nippert to watch the game vs. traveling to Louisville to watch a scrimmage?? The game before hand, LaSalle-Winton Woods, will be a good one as well.

This doesn't suprise me at all. They have one of the greatest programs in the US. We all know that they do in KY because of all of their state titles.

See all you HHS fans. Dale told the players that this years team was "just good, not GREAT, just good" So, with that said, I think the 23 spot fits the Birds for now.

Yes, he is the master of the understatement.

While I'd love to watch the game, its a no brainer for this Highlands fan: where they Birds go, I follow. Good luck tomorrow night. And I have a feeling if Colerain wins, you'll have no problem telling me I was right.:D

And you would be completely wrong. No way Massa doesn't play and no way does Colerain win. It would take a monumental dropoff in St. Xavier's talent pool for us to win. We just have way too much inexperience and are way to young to win in week 1.
Umm...Colerain leads St. Xavier 13-3 with 8:30 left in the 4th qtr.

Massa did not start.

13 - 6 with 3:00 to go. Where's that sandbagging CardinalsFAn? :D

Can a Bluebird fan post why this team could be better than X or T? I just don't see it, but I am removed from all of these programs. What makes Highlands the best team in the Commonwealth and deserving of that ranking?

National high school rankings always have been and always will be a joke.

And the final...

Colerain 13

St. Xavier 8

U - G - L - Y

That is all.

I predict Colerain to beat Cinti X tomorrow night.

I heard they did. Nice pick

Thanks.

I agree...Theres no way...Highlands has a great tradition and program but 8 out of 10 yrs, X or T either would be to deep and talented and both likely deserve to be ranked higher this year, but, I doubt any of the 3 actually deserve a Top 25 ranking. Theres probably 25 teams in Cal, Fl & Tx alone better than any team Ky has to offer, not to mention Ga, Oh and several other states with alot of strong teams.
