August 17, 200818 yr Toby is as much a real democrat, as I am a Pro-Life Conservative Christian. Gooch's post got me thinking, what is a "Real Democrat"? Interested in what we (BGP) see as the criteria to determining a "Real Democrat". Please do not thread jack, I seriously want to know what our BGP Democrats think make up a "Real Democrat".

Dems usually favor peace over war, and really believe in "bubble up" economics as in stimulating the economy through the poor rather than the rich.

Can you provide an example of what the fiscal and monetary policies are that stimulate the economy in bubble up economics?

August 18, 200818 yr When I ws 20 I joined the local union. They have always endorsed the Democrates. In fact at work if someone went the other way they made it hard on them, not in a mean way, but if they were talking about someone it would be mentioned, so I always voted with the Unions. As I aged and put effort into learning what I discovered was there were faults with in each party and there are humans who make mistakes and that holds true today. So I vote the person. The last 15 years my Christian brothers cannot believe I'd vote for the Pro Choice Democrats or Bill Clinton. I did recieve better benefits while under the Democratic President than under Nixon/Reagon/Bushes, but have had problems with the other guys as well. I'd love to see the perfect person to lead our country for the next 8 years. No matter which party they belong to. I'm an American first.

The same Democrats that got us into Vietnam or Korea? I won't bring up WWI or WWII because we were going to get into those no matter who was in office. Both parties will favor conflict if they see a purpose in it in some form. See Iraq...

Kennedy increased the advisory role to ground troops and Johnson made it a full fledged American war. Nixon expanded the war to Cambodia but then conducted the "pull out." It all ended under Ford. Korea was Truman's war and pushed by the Hawks in Congress.

August 19, 200818 yr How's that worked out so far? It worked great under Clinton. We had a balanced budget. The government has the resources to fix big problems alot better than the middle class does. I was asked about being a real democrat so I shared my ideas of what I believe this party stands for and what I personally believe and I find myself way to the left and in MORE agreement with the democratic party than the republican party.
