Bob Rowe, the former longtime (12 years) varsity assistant and Junior Varsity Mustangs coach has become the principal at Covington Catholic High School, and as StickerMann stated, will be replaced by Curtis Bezold.

 

Scott Code, our former varsity assistant throughout Mike Code's tenure, became head coach at Campbell County last year, and was replaced by Kevin Bundy who came in knowing the "Code system" and we didn't miss a beat.

 

Coach Rowe did an excellent job of preparing our players for the varsity level, instilling in them a hard work-ethic and mental toughness. He will be missed. He was also our chief scout, securing and breaking down myriads of tape on our opponents, and contributing to the game plan.

 

Mike Code is very much in charge of the total program, and along with Coaches Bundy, Jeff Henry, Bezold and Schack will keep the Mustangs program running on all cylinders.

 

Unlike last season, when the staff was forced to replace eight stand-alone seniors, we are now a veteran, well-traveled team, heading into the 2008-09 campaign. Expect business as usual.

The Pepsi Mason County Invitational Tournament, formerly the Burley Belt Tournament through 1985 as Sumoroyal stated, is primarily a local "standing invitation" tournament. You are in until you opt out.

 

Bracken County has played in this tournament for as long as I can remember, dating back to the late 90's when the Adam Reed led Polar Bears were serious contenders.

 

This tournament served Mason County well last year, giving them a chance to catch their breaths and sleep in their own beds for a few nights following their trip to Hawaii and playing right back in the 5th/3rd.

 

It appears as though Deming has replaced Montgomery County this year.

5. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't I read on here somewhere in the past that Mason Co. had joined some sort of coalation? Maybe the weather wasn't the only reason for skipping out on the Lexington Catholic Tourny. Anyone know for sure?

Dec 27-29 Montgomery Co is hosting their own tourney. Teams are:

Montgomery Co

Highlands

Scott Co

Anderson Co

Madison Central

Rowan Co

Prestonsburg

and a team from St Lewis.

 

Good line up of teams. You would think that Mason Co would put together a strong field such as this one.

Have always said with the facilites that the MCIT should be a tournament along the lines of the 5th 3rd or the one at Bourbon County. The Fieldhouse has never,ever been utilized the way it should for major tournaments, don't know who is responsible, but a shame. A 5000 seat arena and you can't get big name in state or out of state teams to come for tournaments???

 

Please take this for what it is worth, I did when I asked a few questions of the same degree about the girls program upgrading their schedule a few years ago and was told in a round about way that some of the people who would be running the show didn't want some of the logistical problems associated with hosting a major holiday tourny. Such as gauranteed monies, helping pay hotel expenses, scheduling volunteer workers, security, ect. ect. In short too much trouble and didn't want to take up their free time. Local teams can practice and sleep at home and miss no school days if that pertains to their schedule. Just show up and play. Also even with new construction of hotel space in Maysville, rooms are at a premium because of power plant construction workers living their over the last few years.

Yep, I thought it was before Christmas and then the Royals would come back, much like Hawaii and play in another tournament.

 

So when I went to get the brackets and pull up the link, I saw it's going to be the same dates. Hence, why I said that I stand corrected. :thumb:

 

We have plenty of Mason Co people here on the board, someone tell the coach and/or AD to give us the schedule already. Yes, we must know the games months and months in advance. :lol:

Tha games begin on January 1st and I believe that is the same day the Royals return from Daytona Beach. That will be an interesting game.

Probably because Coach Fite was a Mason Co. graduate.

The Deming King twins are good ballplayers. Highly unlikely being the best sophmores in the state though. They are not even the best sophmore twins in the 38th district.

 

 

So who might this be? I'm gonna go ahead and predict that Deming wins the district.
