I'll have to disagree strongly. Last years guys had heart in spades! One player all year quit a team that lost all but one game. How many teams can say that.The weakness was talent and numbers, not heart. These guys wanted to win and loved to play, they were just outmanned and outgunned. The Cawood game was winnable and Jenkins was actually won, but thats another story. The rest was just lack of manpower and talent. I'm speaking of the seniors here and I do know them and was with them all season. You can't measure heart in ws and ls. I also know many of these kids well and they will do their best and have plenty of heart and Dragon Pride no matter what the score shows.

Its cool! I love the current Dragons muchly, some like my own kids. They will represent well. I'm hoping for more Ws this year, cause its tough without them. If I hadn't went through last season as closely as I did with my boy and the rest of the seniors and watched the class and dignity they played and lost with, as well as the way they stuck together, I may not have been able to defend them. But since I was, I had to challenge any idea that they lacked heart. Again, no worries 68!

Dont get me wrong....I would be happy beyond words if HHS won every game but thats not what I sent my son there for. I wanted my son to see the value of discipline and work ethic and working toward a goal and experiencing that feeling when the goal is achieved and, just as importantly, experiencing that feeling when you fall short of your goals. And I dont know of any other man that is a better teacher of those life lessons than JB Donahue. He sincerely cares about his players and bends over backwards for them. JB is a good disciplnarian and he is also the first to give them a hug when needed. In short, regardless of the outcome of the season via wins/losses, I know that my son is going to have a positive HS football experience. Harlan HS is very forunate to have a man lke JB. Many people dont realize the number of jobs that he has turned down over the years. He was offered the Hazard, Perry Central, and at least one other that I cant remember. I, for one, am glad he stayed!!:thumb:

That last post was made by me at 2:25 AM while I was basically half asleep. Although I absolutely meant everything that I said, I should make it clear that those job offers were made over the course of JB's 20t year career and they occured long before the current coaches in question, both of whom are doing a great job. After reading this post this morning, I felt it important to say this. The programs at Hazard and Perry Central are both in great hands and I sincerely apologize if any offense was taken. That certainly was not my intent! :thumb:

Its good to hear this from others. Winning is great and nothing compares to victory. But, victory after struggle, defeat and sacrifice is sweeter. And sometimes victory isn't winning at all, but in giving it your best, knowing that the odds are against you and being able to look your teamates, coaches, fans, families, and God in the eye and not to be ashamed, even in defeat is a greater victory than any win. I'm proud to be a Dragonpappy among Dragonpappies. Big group Dragon hug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand and agree with a lot of what is being dealt but it seems to be like Harlan Ind. is the only school around with morals. That JB is the only Coach around that has the leadership skills to head a football team. Finally, that winning is non-important in the big scheme of life. I have heard words of Blood, sweat and tears and even talk of the Good Lord Above!

I think Harlan County has three of the best coaches in the entire state of Kentucky and all of them have Character second to none. Suggesting that Harlan Ind. is the only place around that has coaches with high morals is mind blowing. You are 100% correct about this entire county having a lot of good people working with our young people. Talking in the positive about one school in no way suggests negatively about other people. After all, it was a Harlan/Cumb Gap forum. If I offended anyone it certainly wasnt my inention in the least and you should be proud!!

Coach Donahue was also at Middlesboro this weekend along with some of his staff for the middle school grid, he also takes great intrest in the feeder programs at HMS, btw both 5-6 and 7-8 were very successful as they both had shutouts against Lynn Camp.

Yeah, but Larkey went to two different areas to watch teams play. He ate several more Hotdogs just to increase the money flow for his teams. He arrived before anyone and was the last one to leave. This thread is getting a little childish don't you think? Oh yeah!, Larkey even walked to Cumberland and Evarts both to show his support. UNREAL! LOL :banana:
