Lakers, Tigers crack BluegrassPreps preseason poll

BluegrassPreps.com released its annual preseason football rankings Monday night, and both local squads are ranked in the top 20 in their respective classes.

 

Calloway County comes in at ninth in Class 4A, making the Lakers the highest ranked squad in District 1. Lone Oak, District 1 champion and eventual state runner-up last season falls to third in the district, coming in at No. 12 in the poll.

It seems like every major media outlet does some kind of weekly rankings in the state’s most popular high school sports — football and basketball — and each one of them have varying degrees of accuracy. I choose to run the BGP rankings weekly, mostly because I know many of the voting members and trust their knowledge of the football landscape in Kentucky.

Falcons picked to repeat in Class 2-A

 

From staff reports

Bluegrasspreps.com has released its preseason Kentucky high school football polls and a southern Pennyrile squad has been picked to repeat its 2007 state title.

 

Fort Campbell, which won 13 straight games to win the 2007 Class 2-A state title, was chosen No. 1 in the preseason poll released Monday afternoon.

The Caldwell County Tigers just missed a top 10 ranking in the BluegrassPreps.com preseason poll.

 

CCHS is listed 11th in Class 2A in a rating of all teams in each class by the website.

 

It’s the seventh annual preseason rankings for BluegrassPreps.com, but the first time that every team in the state has been ranked. Three of the six defending champions claimed top spots while two defending champs are ranked second in their respective classes
