August 11, 200818 yr Anyone is the best you could come up with? Who on the ML roster right now is a better option? No one has yet to answer this question. Sounds like you guys need to be bashing Jocketty instead of Dusty, Ibelieve hes the one responsible for callups and whatnot. If our best option is at Louisville then it's not Dusty's fault he's not here. I'm not sold on Dusty either but I'm a realistic fan who realizes there aren't many better options here, if any. Anyone?

Andy Phillips, Jolbert Cabrera, Adam Rosales. Heck, they could activate Billy Hatcher and he would do a better job.
August 12, 200818 yr How about Chris Dickerson, currently at AAA Louisville. Dickerson is 6'3'' 225 and left handed. In 94 games, he's hitting .286 with a .385 On-base %, 9 triples, 11 HR and 26 SB. He's also drawn 53 walks, although he's struck out 99 times. Worth a shot. How about Drew Anderson, who is listed as a LF for the Bats. Surely he could play CF, or move Bruce to CF and have Anderson play right. Anderson is hitting .290 with 7 HR, 7 3B and a .328 On-Base%. Drew Stubbs is still a year or two away, but I'd rather have him in the lineup than Corey Patterson. At least Stubbs will be gaining valuable experience. Anyone? Were you just ignoring CC's post to strengthen your own arguement?
August 12, 200818 yr Were you just ignoring CC's post to strengthen your own arguement? He asked for players on the current roster. He stated Dusty can only play who he has on the roster, and blamed Jocketty for the roster makeup, and not Baker. He is correct in that regard. The GM is responsible for the make up of the roster, even though he uses input from the manager.

I agree Patterson is terrible, but no one has named a person on the roster who is a better option right now. True, Patterson could not hit water if he fell in the river, but he does play good D and right now, on the 25 man roster I see no better options. So to blame Dusty entirely for him playing all the time is misguided criticism in this instance.
August 12, 200818 yr Andy Phillips, Jolbert Cabrera, Adam Rosales. Heck, they could activate Billy Hatcher and he would do a better job.I'll give you Cabrera, but only slightly, and he's no where near an everyday CF. I don't know enough about Rosales, I'll take your word on it though. Phillips is a 1B isn't he? Not a CF.
August 12, 200818 yr Just downright awful, I'm sure Patterson would have played if the Reds offered him 19.95 and a few free shamwows. How about...couldn't hit a cheerleader with a yard stick if he was stuck on an elevator with 26 of them... You're both too funny. And sadly, correct.

Baker had other options in the early part of the season in Hopper and Freel, and Bruce had been sent out in spring training. Patterson had a place on the team, as either a platoon centerfielder or a fourth outfielder. And Dusty was the guy that insisted on hitting Patterson at the top of the order.

And he did well at the very beginning of the year. The topic of this thread is why he's continuing to play and stats were even listed since end of May/beginning of June. We're talking now, not then.:thumb:
August 12, 200818 yr And he did well at the very beginning of the year. For what? A week? Patterson was hitting .214 at the end of April, and he's been lousy ever since.
August 12, 200818 yr For what? A week? Patterson was hitting .214 at the end of April, and he's been lousy ever since.I'm not arguing he's awful. Not for a second. Hopper has only played 26 games all year, he's almost literally been hurt all year. Freel is in the same boat, he's only played 48 games. He's been hurt almost all year. Aside from bringing Bruce up there have been no additions to take his spot, in fact the options have gone down with Griff and now Dunn being gone. Let's just end it by saying the Reds stink, and so does Patterson. I don't think you can entirely blame this mess on Dusty, and judging him for 3/4 of a year managing a poorly built team is not quite fair.

Not a CF. Dusty could move Bruce to CF, and play any of those in RF, and they would be a better option than Patterson. Granted you lose a little defensively, but the upgrade in offense would more than make up for it.

I don't think you can entirely blame this mess on Dusty, and judging him for 3/4 of a year managing a poorly built team is not quite fair. At the first of the year, Dusty had three options in CF ... Patterson, Freel and Hopper. He basically chose Patterson. And, once again, it was entirely Dusty's idea to hit Patterson at the top of the order. That idea had already flopped miserably in Chicago ... and history repeated itself in Cincinnati. Apparently, only Dusty didn't see that happening.
August 12, 200818 yr Freel played 23 games in April. Hopper was hitting .240 at the end of April. (25AB) I know not a huge sample size, but he did play some beginning o the year and was just as ineffective. Yes Patterson was hitting .214 but he at least had 4 HR and 11 RBI, as opposed to Hoppers 0 and 0.
August 12, 200818 yr Patterson started 18 games in April Hopper started 7 games in April Freel started 11 games in April Looks like a platoon to me.
