August 12, 200818 yr There's only one person who can be blamed for Patterson and that's Dusty. WK let Dusty bring him in and earn a spot. WK deferred to his manager and it was a bad call.

Dusty makes a phone call and Patterson is outta here. Say what you like, Dusty could make that call. He's hitting .189 for crying out loud. If he got red hot to end the year, he'd still struggle to scare .230. I'm with LRCW. Let a youngster struggle up here as he learns against big league pitching. And again, my answer to who should replace him.......anyone.

August 12, 200818 yr WK said on 700WLW last night that it was not Dusty's call. Yes he asked for his opinion, but that was all. I heard WK on 700 yesterday and he said it was Dusty's idea to bring him in for a tryout and that ALL of them got their heads together on who was going to make the team. IMO he let Dusty have a freebie on CP.

IMO he let Dusty have a freebie on CP. Then you know that he said they brought him as a non-roster invitee, and ONLY if he made the team did he get the contract that he got. Like it or not, that's not Dusty's call. Maybe he got a freebie, maybe not, you don't know that for sure. Maybe i'm wrong, I believe WK and Castellini would probably have to sign off on that. So they agreed with it too. Dusty didn't write him a $3.5 Mil check. Lastly, this teams problems run much deeper than Corey Patterson.
August 12, 200818 yr Patterson started 18 games in April Hopper started 7 games in April Freel started 11 games in April Looks like a platoon to me. Hopper and Freel started games at other positions in that time. In the first 30 games, these were the starters in center field: Patterson ... 19 Freel ... 6 Hopper ... 3 Hairston ... 2 Essentially, Patterson was Dusty's primary choice ... he started eight of the first 10 games and 11 of the first 15 games. And again, the primary problem wasn't that Patterson was playing, but where he was hitting in the batting order. Edited August 12, 200818 yr by westsider
August 12, 200818 yr Lastly, this teams problems run much deeper than Corey Patterson. No argument there, but Dusty's handling of Patterson is indicative of the problems a team has when they put him in the dugout.
