July 31, 200818 yr As a person who doesn't feel like either of our candidates for president is a good choice, I have noticed a couple of ads that seem really childish. The first I saw last week blamed Obama for high gas prices. (Obama has been a senator for just a couple of years and gas prices have been on the rise for at least four or five years, right?.) The other comercial which I saw this morning compares Obama to Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears. Both were ads sponsored by John McCain which is really a shame because I thought he may be a better leader than Obama in some ways, but this really changed my opinion of him. Is this really a mature way to run a presidential campaign.

I have not watched the ads but the kind of energy policies that Obama has supported and continues to support are part of the reason for current gasoline prices. He personally may not be responsible but he is not proposing anything that will reduce either gasoline prices or our dependence on foreign oil. Proposing money for research into alternative energy is great but blocking all new domestic oil drilling makes Obama a big part of the problem particularly if he is going to be president for the next four years.

Is this really a mature way to run a presidential campaign. No it isn't. I would rather hear more from the candidates about what they would do instead of listening to them tear down each other. The candidates need to be telling the American people how they intend to lead us. Just last month, John McCain pledged that throughout the campaign, he would "show my admiration and respect for Senator Obama." As for Obama, he pledged to "run a different campaign, run a positive campaign." Oh well, that was then.

When Obama took his senate seat on Jan 4, 2005, the average price of gas was $1.82. As of July 28, the average price is $4.01. Now I'm not about to lay the blame on one senator, but the price has more than doubled in 3 1/2 years.

If you want to learn about the canidates position on issues you will have to research it for youself. Even if they were to talk about the issues, no way they could make their position clear in a 30 second TV commercial. Maybe if the media would do their job and bring light to both canidates positives AND negatives then McCain wouldn't have to do it in a commercial.

However, each candidate needs to not make themselves look worse with their own commercials.

It slays me that McCain will resort to Rove tactics after what Rove did to McCain in 2000 in South Carolina. It just goes to show, there are no principles when it comes to getting elected.
