I think Antonio Andrews can be every bit as talented on the field as CJ Croft was. He's quicker and throws a better deep ball than Croft. Will he stay in the pocket long enough to make the pass is the question. He may not be the leader Croft was but he's also a junior. I think Fort Campbell will be fine at the QB spot. The big hole to fill will be McWherter on defense and Rhinestine on the O-line. I've been told the Falcons players have worked twice as hard in the weightroom in the spring and summer. A recruiting service film crew went to FC to interview some of their top players and made the comment they had never seen a team work ethic in the weight room like they saw at Fort Campbell.

 

I agree with both of your observations. CJ was the leader on offense and had the one thing that Antonio doesn’t have and that was experience. However, with some meaningful varsity experience under his belt, I believe Antonio can be just as good, if not better, then CJ. With the type of offense that FC normally runs I thing Antonio can be much more of a ground threat then CJ was and CJ did pretty well at key times running the ball. That combined with an already stacked backfield could make for a very dangerous run game.

 

As much as CJ was the leader on offense, Josh McWherter was the leader on defense, but in steps Josh Carter, who could likely be a D1 player next year. All things considered I believe FC has a very good chance at getting to Louisville again this December.

From what I hear out of Newcath their D is looking shaky, I mean there basically relying on a whole new D. From what I remember their Jv defense wasn't anything special so I don't see them doing much on that side of the ball. But watch out for the tandem of Kues and Kelly their Offense is going to be explosive. Also, I know I have said it a 100 times and I know I'm biased toward HC. But their Defense is looking strong as ever with NKY's leading tackler back in Brad Herald, and watch out for Walker and Roenker in the backfield, they have just as much talent as Newcath's backfield and with solid protection, this Offense might get into a groove and be one of the tougher teams to mess with in 2A. If not all of NKY.:thumb:

 

HC still has its same coaching staff, correct? I've never been impressed w/ their ability to call a game. In my opinion, that is the main reason that HC hasn't beaten NewCath on a more consistent basis, they've been outcoached on every level.

I'd love to see Jake Smith get more playing time on D, he'd make an instant impact. Escalante is a very good safety. Chris Kelly will be a very good MLB. There are three impact players on every level of defense. By the end of the year they will be ok.

Same Head coach. New line coach and a 2nd year O-coordinator who really can call plays. So everyone connected to the program tightly is hoping more of the play calling is handed of to him.

I would love to see my admirals go toe to toe with New Cath one more time at Papa Johns. That last one was a classic and we need some revenge.

C. J Croft was the best leader on the field that I have seen in years. He demanded the respect of his players and he got it. They definitely followed his lead. That will be hard to replace. Ft. Campbell always has talent. Coach Berner has made sure of that the past few years and he gets alot out of his players. The question is, have they really put that much space between them and Owensboro Catholic and Trigg Co? Just two seasons ago they went out in the first round, then last year they won the whole thing. Those 3 teams have been the elite in 2A for the past 5-7 years in Western Kentucky.

I agree that Fort Campbell, Owensboro Catholic, and Trigg County are three of the best 2A football programs in Western Kentucky over the last five years, but last year Fort Campbell overcame a significant hurdle by beating Owensboro Catholic twice. Prior to that I believe they were 0-3 against OC with all three losses in playoff games. Under coach Berner FC is 5-2 against Trigg County with one loss in Berner’s first year and the other being the playoff loss two years ago. For the most part, Trigg County has not been very successful against Fort Campbell under Coach Berner. That fact was evident by comments made by Trigg’s Radio host who said after the 2006 regular season loss that “they were glad Fort Campbell was moving into a different district (with OC) the following year (2007)”. To answer your question I believe FC has, for the most part, had Trigg’s number under Berner, as far as OC I think they will battle for years to come, but last year was a step in the right direction for Fort Campbell.

NCC should finish strong and perhaps another state title. They lost some good talent but they always manage to reload.

I'm sorry but I still don't understand how everyone can still place Corbin in the top 5. They only return two linemen, lost one of the better QB's in the state, and they lost several on defense. The only positive thing they really bring back is their backfield.

 

I'm in no way trying to put down the Redhounds program I just don't think some really realize what their talking about when putting these ranking together. Most are putting 2A rankings together by the teams name, not by what they return.

From a NewCath fan's perspective, the backfield that Corbin is returning is the real deal. They will help out any QB put behind center. Returning 2 O-Lineman is a big deal, but Corbin always has someone ready to run block. As long as whoever they have at QB can "Manage a Game" they will be top 5, easily.

I am a Corbin fan so people may relate my post to homerism. I think with what Corbin returns they are a Top 10 team. 7-8-9 would be a justified ranking. I also believe that Corbin is getting rated based on their name and tradition. However, as stated above, the backfield is the real deal. I would even go as far to say that you "may" not find a better backfield in the state but thats a thread in it's own. Corbin has some talented linemen but they lack some experience. Fear not though, I've never known a Corbin team to not have a solid line. Coach Jewell, as always will have this bunch being recognized as one of the best in the mountains when it's all said and done.

 

All in all, right now, Corbin may be a little overrated in some of these rankings. It will take some time to get used to a new offense, new QB, as well as shore up some of the missing links. By the end of the year, this team will be one of the top 3, 4, or 5 teams in 2A ball. There will be a few growing pains early but the post season is when it counts. Then people will see them as the team that will run over you on offense and make you black and blue on defense.

Why? They have 20+ seniors which most saw alot of varsity time, and a strong if not stronger junior class. Maybe sounds to me like someone is a little bitter from last year?
