July 13, 200818 yr So do I, J.J. just slammed the only point that Obama has made thus far that I actually agree with. Like I had stated in another post, imo this actually helped Obama and exposed Jackson for the idiot that he really is (as if anyone needed any more proof) I certainly am not and will not call you arrogant, not even close imo but as for Obama....yes, the man and his wife are elite, pompass and imo look down their noses on everyone regardeless of race. They are not prejudice with their arrogance. :thumb: I certainly agree, it was plainly stated that they didn't release the entire conversation (which by the way was reported was a lot worse as it went on), had the scenerio that you stated been the the major main "sceam" media outlets would had been "foaming at the mouth" and all over it. CNN would still be celebrating and claiming it a national holiday . You question was not for me I don't belive but..... Yes I do. I just can't agree that they are arrogant.
July 13, 200818 yr I'm with you, nWo. I don't see Obama or his wife as arrogant or elitist, especially after seven years of GWB (and Cheney and Rumsfeld, when he was around, too). Heck, even without Bush's example, I wouldn't see them that way.
July 13, 200818 yr The Obamas, just a humble millionaire couple struggling to make ends meet and having to cope with frustrated gun-toting Bible thumpers who do not support Barack's candidacy simply because he does not look like them. Barack Obama is just the latest model of hypocritical limousine liberal who believes that Americans must make sacrifices, while excluding himself and his family from the pain of sacrifice. Let them eat cake! "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said. - Obama camp spies endgame in Oregon You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations. - Obama 'Small Town' Comments Draw Fire, Support “Everywhere I go, no matter what, the women in the audience, their first question for me is, ‘How on earth are you managing it, how are you keeping it all together?’” Michelle Obama is sitting with a group of six women around a table in the basement playroom of the Zanesville Day Nursery, here in economically troubled central Ohio. Her talk is of struggle — her own struggle, the women’s struggles, the struggles of women across the country. There are struggles over money, over kids, over jobs, over husbands and ex-husbands. And perhaps most of all, there is the struggle inside. “It’s a constant sense of guilt,” Obama, dressed simply in a blue sweater with a triple strand of pearls, tells the women of her own dilemma as a working mother. “It’s guilt, feeling guilty all the time.” So how does she keep it all together? “I’m fine, because I have a strong informal support network,” Obama says. “I have a mother who lives five minutes from me. I don’t know what I would do, even if we weren’t running, I don’t know what I would do as a professional without having that kind of support system. So that keeps me sane.” But not everyone has a close relative living nearby. And not everyone can afford to keep it all together, especially here in Muskingum County, where, according to the census, the median household income in 2004 was $37,192, below both the Ohio and national average. Out of that, there’s the mortgage. And child care. Health care. Education. Lessons. “I know we’re spending — I added it up for the first time — we spend between the two kids, on extracurriculars outside the classroom, we’re spending about $10,000 a year on piano and dance and sports supplements and so on and so forth,” Mrs. Obama tells the women. “And summer programs. That’s the other huge cost. Barack is saying, ‘Whyyyyyy are we spending that?’ And I’m saying, ‘Do you know what summer camp costs?’” With all those concerns, one might wonder whether the women should be comforting Mrs. Obama, but she assures them that she’s really O.K. “We don’t complain because we’ve got resources because of our education. We’ve got family structure,” she says. “So I tell people don’t cry for me.” - Michelle’s Struggle
July 13, 200818 yr Who said that the we thought the Obama's were struggling? No one. You can be wealthy and not be snide, condescending or arrogant. Look at Laura Bush. She is married to a very wealthy oil businessman who has no lack of arrogance, yet I have never ever considered her to be arrogant.

(Sarcasm - I really do not believe that the Obamas are either struggling or humble.) Yes, you can be - but the Obamas aren't.
July 13, 200818 yr Problem is, Obama comes across as being arrogant. I'd be curious to test your theory and include the variable of likelihood to vote for him. I'm guessing hard core right leaning folks like you truly see him as elitist or arrogant while the left does not at all. So, if I'm right, the only people that he should be concerned about regarding this perception is those like me.

I agree with Newt Gingrich's political positions almost in lockstep, but he is one of the most arrogant politicians alive. He is also one of the most intelligent and articulate politicians alive but the arrogance that I and many others perceive will probably keep him from ever having a serious shot at the presidency. I think liberals are generally a little less sensitive to arrogance in candidates because they already believe in restricting personal liberty and using other people's money for what they consider the good of the collective public. In Obama, they see themselves, sans the arrogance.

July 13, 200818 yr Could you expound a little more? Are you saying because people support Senator Obama they are arrogant themselves? Not exactly. There are people who support Obama who are not liberals and who are not arrogant. However, the belief that one can do more good with other people's money than the owners of that money requires a certain amount of arrogance. Those people, the most liberal among us, constitute the core of Obama's support. People who strongly believe in personal and economic freedom, who also believe that hard working people should be free to enjoy the fruits of their labor tend to recognize the arrogance and hypocrisy of liberal politicians like Obama. Liberalism requires a certain measure of arrogance, while arrogance among conservatives is purely optional.
July 13, 200818 yr (Sarcasm - I really do not believe that the Obamas are either struggling or humble.) Yes, you can be - but the Obamas aren't. Perspective, I guess. This is the only place where I have heard anyone characterize them as arrogant.

July 13, 200818 yr Perspective, I guess. This is the only place where I have heard anyone characterize them as arrogant.I guess. Obama's characterization of small town Americans was one of the most arrogant things that I can recall any politician saying. Considering that his audience was a group of affluent San Francisco liberals, I am sure that he was just preaching to the choir.
