He beat Dan, which is very impressive, and Rich, in impressive fashion, but how good is the MW division? IMO it may be the weakest in the UFC. Not to mention people actually thought he would beat RJJ in a boxing match.....come on.

It's just an opinion...and Silva is as good a pick as any. The MW division is definitely better than the heavyweights, and better than the welterweights, IMO. Rich Franklin was considered to be the best MW in the world before Silva came along. Dan Henderson held two belts in PRIDE. Nate Marquardt was a 7-time middleweight champion in Pancrase. He's only fought 6 times in the UFC...even if you question the rest of the division, how can you question Franklin and Henderson? He's destroyed Rich twice and handled Henderson rather easily. That speaks for itself. It's more than just a lucky fight. It's happened 6 times in a row. The P4P title goes to whichever fighters is the most impressive at the moment and right now it has to be Silva. Fedor hasn't had a real fight in over a year and a half. Nobody else has been as dominant or sustained it as long as Silva.

There are a lot of good fighters but there are only a few elite fighters. Georges, BJ Penn and Anderson Silva are a few of the elite fighters. :thumb: Right now, I think the P4P title centers around those three you mentioned (Silva, GSP and BJ) and Fedor...those 4 guys, IMO, have proven they can compete at a higher level than the rest of the respective weight classes. I think Anderson Silva is the guy, because he's been completely dominant with quick finishes against top notch competition for a longer period. That said, I wouldn't argue with anyone who felt one of those other 3 deserved the P4P title. They're all great fighters with no apparent weaknesses. I think the bolded is what separates them from the rest. Most fighters have some area of their game that is considered a weakness. You can't really find one in those 4 guys...they're all devastating strikers and equally efficient on the ground, IMO.

I've been waiting for the UFC to put him in against a tougher opponent. I think Silva has the skills to be an elite LHW and could be the champ within the 12 to 18 months, IMO, depending on what the UFC does with their matchmaking. This fight against Machida will be a tough one though. Machida has a very unique style that is hard to prepare for. I think Silva is a better fighter, but this is a match he could easily lose. Machida is very efficient at avoiding damage while delivering enough to win rounds and stay ahead in fights. It's not an exciting style for fans, but it is effective.
