They aren't protesting to change the decision though. They do want an immediate rematch instead.

Anderson Silva could beat anyone in the 205 pound division. I read or heard recently that he weighs around 215 pounds normally. He'd have no trouble in that weight class. It would be no different than Dan Henderson. He fights equally well in both weight classes. In fact, some would argue that Henderson is a better fighter at 205.

He could beat any of those guys on any given night IMO. They might have an advantage but his stand up is as good as all of those names you listed if not better. And if they took him down, they'd have to be careful or he'd submit them. He will be a smaller 205 but he would still be dangerous and a contender IMO.

 

Look what he did to a much bigger, much stronger Rich Franklin.

 

I agree with everything you said, except the end. I don't think Rich was bigger or stronger than Anderson Silva. Especially the second time they fought. Silva overpowered him in the clinch, IMO, because he was stronger. Anderson Silva is a big, strong dude at 185 pounds. I think it gets overlooked because he's so long...

 

As for his prospects at LHW, he's easily good enough to beat anyone and take the title in that division. That's not to say he would for certain, but he's good enough to.

 

How can you overlook the fact that he defeated Henderson in the second round? The same Henderson who knocked out Wanderlei...who went 5 rounds with Rampage.

 

If Anderson Silva fought Forrest Griffin, the fight might make it the third round before Griffin got knocked out or submitted.

If we've learned anything over the past 2 or 3 years, it's that we can basically ignore a fighter's performance in PRIDE when they step into the octagon. I'd rather look at what Silva has done since he came to the UFC, 6-0 (4 KO's, 2 submissions) and no fight making it past round 2, as opposed to his results in PRIDE, the most recent being 12/31/2004...almost 4 years ago.

Anderson Silva stated recently that he wouldn't stay at 205 for long. He said he was moving up to fight Irvin as a "favor" to Dana White.

 

Then it makes absolutely no sense...it didn't make much to start with.

 

Why on earth would you want to make a hurry-up match with your best fighter and move him up a weight class to fight a guy with serious KO power? There's nothing to gain and a lot to lose if it's just a one-time thing...if he wins, it was expected. If he loses, then your best fighter just got beat by a one-dimensional, mid-level LHW.

 

I'd have just let him fight somebody at 185...I'm sure there is someone who would take that fight on short notice for a shot at the belt.

In no way am I saying he will get dominated and lose every fight, but cutting 5-10 lbs to fight guys like Chuck and Forrest, who cut 20-25 lbs or more, its a different world. The biggest thing would be power, Anderson wouldn't lose any but Chuck and Rampage are arguably the 2 hardest punching guys in all MMA.

 

Then we have the clinch, Anderson dominates guys his size and smaller, but if you have done any MT training you know its hard with someone your size, much less 20 lbs of muscle bigger.

 

Last we have height and reach. He had the advantage on every single fighter at 185, at 205 everyone is the same height or taller and have the same or longer reach, aside Rampage and Wand.

 

With all that said I think he fights a few fights at 205 and thats it. It would hurt the UFC if he won the 205 title also.

The LHW division is the deepest in the UFC. I don't think anyone, including myself, thinks Anderson Silva would walk through it in the same fashion he's done at middleweight. However, it is obvious that he has the strength and skill to beat ANYONE at 205 pounds. I would suspect the only people who would think otherwise are either ignorant of MMA or just don't like Anderson Silva.

It's pretty much expected now that he's going to finish every opponent in less than 10 minutes.
