I think LC takes this one....I have seen some young teams Like Harrision Co.

Do all of the right things and win as young underdogs or put a real scare into the more experienced teams...

But who won last year not Harrison GRC beat them both times they played them. They would have beaton WJ that's for sure! We did win against Dunbar one game and they were ranked in the nation. But it doesn't matter about water under the bridge. It's just last year there were some very bad comments and sportsmanship from Harrison on this board. But we hope they do good, GRC wasn't supposed to beat Dunbar and they did so you never know!

I agree on one thing old guy. I've heard that this Maronde kid does throw the ball fairly hard, and you're saying that the Breds won't be able to hit this pitcher. Okay, say they dont hit the ball, I believe to get beat the other team has to score, don't they? I'm not saying that Lex Cath won't hit the ball, i'm saying that the breds defense has been quite flawless these past couple of days and they what is at stake on every play. I think the Breds are as focused as any group of kids could be going into the state tournament. This game could get very interesting. IMO. Go Breds!!! :ylsuper:

 

I would think throwing the ball consistently in the lower 90's means he throws the ball just a little more than "fairly hard", at least by my standards for a HS pitcher! Now what by your standards for a HS pitcher do you call really hard? I really just wonder?

 

Now understand I could care less unlike you who wins this game, but I have seen and spoke to a few who have batted against this young man, who were a little more than just a little impressed by him.... and who has Harrison County faced that throws at the speed this young man does this season for strikes? Again I just wonder? BTW just wondering, did Robbie Ross (LCA) pitch against Harrison County when they lost 17-3 to them?

Maronde is tough and will be hard to beat. However, if Catholic is trying to win it all, will they spend Maronde against Harrison County? Ross did not pitch against Harrison County, but that was very early in the season. Harrison did see some very good pitching in Florida this spring. If Harrison is successful playing "Small Ball" and plays good defense they can win this one. Good luck to the Thorobreds!

Okay, he throws "very hard" my bad old guy. But that still doesnt mean that the knights are going to hit the ball or score runs, it take runs to win a ball game and a pitcher does not put runs on the board. :thumb:

 

And.. No, he did not. But these two teams faced when the breds were still maturing. This game was a long, long time ago and LCA did not even throw their best pitcher or even one of their top pitchers, the guy only threw about a consistant 80. Speed was no factor in this game, it was lack of concentration and many errors were made by the Breds infield. Thus leading to a major loss early in the season.

Make no mistake about it, Coach Whitaker is one of the best in the business when it comes to doing what it takes to win a game. Should the game be close, he knows what it takes to help manufacture a run and always appears to have the right kids who can execute. He always gives his teams a chance to win and makes the right moves when the games are tight. I believe this game will be close, but perhaps experience wins out for the Knights this year with the young Breds learning a lot and making them very dangerous for next year and the year after. Good luck to both.

On paper, I'd say Lex Cath has the advantage in this game. Despite losing some pretty good seniors last year, they still had some key underclassmen remaining. Maronde is probably one of the three best pitchers in this state. Champa and a few other guys are capable enough pitchers to really effect good teams. Hitting wise, this team has seemed inconsistent at times throughout the year however they seem to be on track of late.

 

Still, this is a single elimination tournament, and a sport in general. Anything can happen if you aren't focused and ready each game. Harrison Co. sounds like a team that has really come on strong over the past two months and is playing good team ball right now. I don't know if Maronde will pitch or not since the high school pitching rules confuse me in tournament situations like this. Still, anything can happen.

 

I'll just say I'm cheering for my old high school and say Go Knights!!!

GRC would have lost in 2 games to West Jessamine, it is a good thing the Breds are representing the 10th.

 

I don't think thats true at all since GRC is the team that has played Harrison the closest(should have beat them). And GRC last year was much better than this years' Breds because they are so young. But this isn't a thread for that.

 

If Maronde pitches I don't see Harrison winning this game at all. I'm sure Harrison will throw Martin so it will keep Lex Cath's bats down a bit.

Being a Greenup fan, This is what I am wondering about also. I'll just be honest here and say " I sure hope he pitches against Harrison Co."

If they don't throw him against Harrison, they won't throw him against Greenup or Lawrence either. They may try to save him for the best team, which would be PRP or Apollo.
