June 1, 200818 yr Senator Clinton is about to deliver another landside defeat to Senator Obama in the Puerto Rico primary election. Obama's favorability ratings continue to slide and his unfavorables continue to climb. Today's win may propel Hillary into the popular vote lead, once the votes are counted, depending on the size of the turnout. Obama has been the presumptive nominee for several weeks now. He seems to be milking the clock and backing into the nomination. Why are more Democrats not rallying behind Obama to make him a stronger candidate this fall? Can Obama regain his momentum after sitting on his lead for so long?
June 2, 200818 yr Of course, since it has been a foregone conclusion that Senator Obama is the hands-down nominee, this slide could be written off as nothing more than his supporters not showing up as strongly at the polls.
June 2, 200818 yr Author Obama has an uphill battle to win the White House. All of the questions about his judgment and leadership skills, highlighted by his agonizingly slow decision to distance himself from Rev. Wright, Father Pfleger, and finally Trinity United Methodist Church, have taken their toll. Add the Rezko scandal, his association with William Ayers and his terrorist wife, and questionable earmarks to political supporters, and Obama is looking at a rough ride through some choppy waters. McCain Trusted More Than Obama on Economy, Iraq, National Security

McCain Trusted More Than Obama on Economy, Iraq, National Security Don't disagree but you have to take into account the political climate where the republicans are losing long time safe congressional seats. When the economy is seen to be as bad as this one is, people want change and unless McCain can convince them he's it (doubtful to me), I believe Obama will win.

June 2, 200818 yr I think a part of the reason is he's gong into the general campaign mode and really isn't campaigning against Senator Clinton.
June 2, 200818 yr I think a part of the reason is he's gong into the general campaign mode and really isn't campaigning against Senator Clinton. Right, his focus was far from Puerto Rico as it should have been. He's beaten Clinton;McCain is in his sights now.

When the economy is seen to be as bad as this one is, people want change and unless McCain can convince them he's it (doubtful to me), I believe Obama will win. When asked whether they would prefer a generic Democrat or Republican in the White House, people, recent polls show that Americans prefer a Democrat by a double digit margin. When asked if they prefer Obama or McCain, it is nearly a dead heat. That and his 2-1 loss margins in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico and his crushing defeat in Pennsylvania show that Americans are far from sold on Obama.
June 2, 200818 yr Author Right, his focus was far from Puerto Rico as it should have been. He's beaten Clinton;McCain is in his sights now.Using that logic, Huckabee should have enjoyed some lopsided wins against John McCain after he locked up the nomination. It did not happen.
June 2, 200818 yr The Democrats this year are blessed to have two very good candidates. They have each drawn very large and passionate support. The Republicans weren't able to come up with one good candidate. Senator Obama will not be running against Senator Clinton in November. He will close that deal.
June 2, 200818 yr A lot of polls still have Obama leading over McCain though right? Take this with a grain of salt.... remmeber McCain has been out of the spotlight for a while now...once the Democratic nominee is assured and McCain begins hitting the trail full bore, I expect those numbers to change.
June 2, 200818 yr You have excellent political insight. Don't know about that but I do love to follow politics.
