Ironically the war had ended already but news didn't reach here by the time it took place. It is also the only place in the world that is home to Short's Goldenrods
May 16, 200818 yr Ocala was established in 1846 near the site of Fort King, a military outpost of the Seminole Wars. Ocala is a derivation of the Timucua word "Ocali" which is believed to mean the "Big Hammock". Hernando de Soto passed through a Timucua village or province named Ocali or Ocale near the present site of Ocala during his famous expedition through what is today the southeastern United States in 1539. The Olde Talbott Tavern in Bardstown is the oldest continually-operating and surviving stage stop in the United States. Its documented visitors/guests have included Jesse James, King Louis XIV of France, and President Jimmy Carter. Nearly 75% of the world's bourbon supply is still made and stored within a 15 mile radius of Bardstown.

May 17, 200818 yr Owsley County is the boyhood home and birth place of New York Yankee HOF outfielder and .300+ hitter Earle Combs. He was raised in an area called Pebworth on route 11 between Booneville and Beattyville. Also, Daniel Boone camped in Owsley County and owned land there. The county seat, Booneville, is named for him. I'm a direct descendant of Daniel's wife Rebecca. Which would make Boone my great, x something, grandfather. Knott County is the "Elk Capital of Kentucky". The supposed short time home of little Charlie Manson. He, supposedly, lived a short time in Jones Fork. Not sure if that is true. But, here, anything is possible

Also another Tim Couch who is in the Kentucky House of Representatives, 2002-present Chairman Home of Jody Sizemore - Miss Basketball 1999 Home of the Osborne Brothers - They wrote & sang "Rocky Top" & many other bluegrass hits. Frontier Nursing Service - founded in 1925 in Leslie County by Mary Breckinridge Leslie County is also the "Red Bud capital of the world" & unfortunately also another "bud" that I will not explain.
