Not really, especially when the statement I made is true.

 

I have no intentions of hurting the kid, but my question is would he have the stats he does, if (again that big word) if he batted against the likes of the LCA, LC, Male, etc. Please don't tell me that it doesn't help his averages to play two times against Villa, Dayton etc. than if he played two times against the better teams across the Commonwealth.

 

I go to a lot of games, more so than most anyone on this forum during the HS season and the summer ball season and no I don't have a son, or family member playing, so I have no other reason to go than I just love watching good baseball. I have seen the kid play, and he is indeed very good, but when you consider who he is playing against most day's on his HS team, I just wonder why some get so excited because of his numbers. Do you really think that some of the better players in the Ninth wouldn't be putting up equal or even better numbers playing against the schedule he plays day in and day out. In the long run, unless his HS team plays some better competition next year, it is going to hurt him, as playing against inferior team/players doesn't help him get better.

 

And before I get roasted for not writing about the game, I will be in Murray, Kentucky helping to pack up my daughters belongings to take her home from College Saturday so I will not see the CovCath vs Bellevue game.

Certainly you are entitled to your opinion and I'm even more certain you're convinced you're 100% right, but I'll still beg to differ with you. While CovCath absolutely plays a tougher schedule and certainly sees better pitching routinely, you simply cannot discount what this young man has done and does on a daily basis. Doing so is just simply self serving. I'll bet you a hot fudge sundae that the CovCath hitters prefer to face a good hard throwing pitcher than someone who might break 50 on a good day. GOOD high school hitters almost always have more trouble with the slow, slower, slowest fastball combined with even slower junk.

Ahhhhh, quite to the contrary, Bellevue has already seen the likes of Nichols from Dixie, Towles and Muench from Highlands, Adkins from Scott, Peebles from Walton, Walters from Williamstown, etc. While you may not respect the Bellevue team, there are others that do. Not every big school game is a battle of #1 or #2's either. While Mr. Jones may not deserve that kind of recognition YET, belittling his stats with the above argument just shows you're making assumptions and not using facts.

 

Towles only threw two innings against Bellevue and had 4 k's and didn't give up any hits. So yea they've faced some good pitching for brief periods, but didn't do very well. In big games that count, Bellevue will face better pitching and in all reality will probably not get out of the district. Jones is a good player and certainly has some potential to be a very good player.

This is not a slam on Bellevue's team, coach, record, or even their schedule. It is a simple statement of fact and one with which even you apparently agree. Therefore, is simply not unreasonable to say that Jones' stats have been built against comparably weaker competition and are therefore difficult to directly compare vis-a-vis with someone like Maile or Farris. I just don't see how that is such an offensive statement to you.

 

And with respect to your last statement about pitching, it may or may not be true. 85 mph fastballs are pretty tough to hit at the high school level. As Reggie Jackson once stated about Nolan Ryan, ""Every hitter likes fastballs just like everyone likes ice cream. But you don't like it when someone is stuffing it into you by the gallon." :lol: And I highly doubt those 50 mph pitchers to whom you referred are the quality type pitchers that effectively mix that "fastball" with good junk pitches. So based on your statement about slow pitchers, are you saying that Jones has had to face "tougher" pitching than these other players?

 

Anyway, the bottomline is that Jones is a fine ballplayer and fine young man and deserves all the accolades throw his way. Congrats to Bellevue on a fine season to date and best of luck in the post season (unless you meet Ryle).

You must have seen a completely different player than I did.

Don't know if he kicks the ball around the infield ALL the time, like I said I only saw him play twice. Lloyd game he had 3 errors in the first inning, didn't get to Ryle until the 5th inning and he only had one opportunity and he booted that.
