I think you'll agree with me that the biggest joke ever associated with High School sports is the concept of a "level playing field" in competition, scheduling, rankings, statistics and/or even individual performances.

And you are absolutely right. Just a sophomore. The other great thing is, there are 5 more sophomores on that team that are currently playing with him.

I'm sure Jones is probably a very good player, I've only seen him play once. But POY with the likes of Maile and Farris. He's not there yet. Remember also that most of the time even when Bellevue plays a top 10 team, they're not facing their ace. Beating or staying close in a game against the 3 or 4 pitcher is alot different than beating their best.

Ahhhhh, quite to the contrary, Bellevue has already seen the likes of Nichols from Dixie, Towles and Muench from Highlands, Adkins from Scott, Peebles from Walton, Walters from Williamstown, etc. While you may not respect the Bellevue team, there are others that do. Not every big school game is a battle of #1 or #2's either. While Mr. Jones may not deserve that kind of recognition YET, belittling his stats with the above argument just shows you're making assumptions and not using facts.

Agreed. Teams like Ryle, Cov Cath, and Beechwood see other teams aces probably close to 80% of the time they play local teams. If you have a top notch team tomorrow and Bellevue today, I think you throw your #2 or #3 today and save something for tomorrow. Bellevue might have an above average strength of schedule but how many of the BEST pitchers do they see? My guess is close to 20 or 30% of the time.:confused:

Well, as I understand it, Bellevue is trying to "build up" their program. I'm not sure how Bellevue's coaching staff looks at it, but IMO go ahead and continue to run your #2 or 3 or 4 guy out there against them. The Tigers are gaining confidence every game. And you guys know confidence is huge in baseball or any sport for that matter.

Hardly a "silly argument", but we're each entitled to our opinions. So if a player from Heritage or Calvary was hitting .700, should he be considered for POY? He might be a quality player, but there is certainly a legitimate argument regarding the level of competition against which one plays.

He is a fine player and I have most certainly stated that time and time again. But I am of the opinion that it is difficult/unreasonable to compare the stats of Jones vs. Maile/Farris/Elliott/etc.. because Bellevue simply doesn't play the same level of competition as the "big" schools (your term, not mine). I am not blaming Bellevue or implying they are ducking better competition, but seriously, if you really truly compare their schedules agaisnt CCH, Ryle, BHS, Scott, Boone and it just doesn't compare.

In another thread you mention that Baseball in Kentucky is getting better and gave us an article to prove it. Well I read it and I agree, baseball is getting better in Kentucky but out of the three kids that were mentioned in the article and their three teams, which teams and players did Jones face this season?

Actually, your point (I'm assuming) was that even when the "big" schools such as CCH and Ryle met, they didn't throw their respective aces, thereby implying that the hitters actually didn't see top pitching. And the fact of the matter is that each team did throw their ace. So tell me again your point because I must have missed it.

I'll just go ahead and go out on a limb, and assume CCH has faced all of them. I mean really, can we just give a kid credit for having a good year, without bashing his Teams schedule? It's really nice to see what Coach Sanders has been able to do at Bellevue thus far. But he will be the first to tell you, not only do you need to be a good Coach, but you have to a little talent as well. The baseball Team has made huge strides to become better, and it's beginning to show. With that, they will be able to get more Teams to play them, just like Beechwood has since Myerhoff got there.
