Paul Pierce will cost the Celtics

Featured Replies

I am surprised this hasn't got much play on here but Paul Pierce and his gang sign giving, head band throwing, getting a technical at the worst time will cost the Celts a title. Somewhere sometime in these playoffs.

I think it will be more his play than his antics. He seems to want to be THE guy for them and I don't think he should be.

I agree with OR but I could see that costing them dearly also.

Does anyone know what gang sign he was throwing up?

Those multiple stab wounds a few years back don't look so random now..........................

Why shouldn't he feel like that? I mean yeah he's not the best on his team BUT he has been there the longest and probably feels like he should take the shot. The whole gang sign shouldn't happen though.

But gang signs in the NBA goes beyond just that, it trickles down to the kids and if kids are out in the streets throwing those signs up then members from other gangs could intervene and it could get ugly. Yeah unlikely but it could still happen and it shouldn't!

Because he was the man.......and had how many winning seasons and won how many playoff series?

I'm just saying I can understand him feeling like that, but in order to win you have to swallow pride and realize you're not the man anymore. I know that, I wasn't meaning to try and defend him. Just saying I could understand him feeling that way.

But the supposed man on his team now doesn't like taking the big shots and never has. KG isn't willing to dominate the ball in the 4th quarter of big games. Pierce loves the big stage. He's also the better of the big 3 of creating his own shots. The second best on that team at creating their own is Rondo.

How much did KG and Ray Allen win when they were the man? That's weak.

KG won more than both of them.

I think Allen should be the guy to take a last shot. If I was Rivers, I would have Pierce create and find him. Problem is, I think Pierce would force a bad shot. JMO

Pierce isn't the Celtics best player (2nd best, I'd say). But, he is the best option for them at crunch time when they need a big shot. It's not unheard of for a team's second best player to be their go-to guy at crunch time.

Just to reiterate what you said...KG has never been a big shot guy and Pierce is the best they have at creating his own shot. Pierce may or may not take the big shot, but he needs to have the ball because he can create his shot or create a good look for someone else.

I totally disagree with this thread. IMO, the fact that Pierce is banged up and less than 100% is hurting Boston more than people realize.

KG won more than both of them.

I'm pretty sure Paul Pierce made it just as far as KG ever did...conference finals. The fact is, none of them had a lot of success because none of them ever had the type of supporting cast necessary to win big. That's a terrible argument because it applies to all three of them...

In a perfect world, Ray Allen is definitely the best option because he's a great shooter. The problem is, he's not that good at creating a high percentage shot on his own...if I'm the Celts coach, then Pierce gets the ball and I'm willing to live with his decision.

Let me ask you this...if you were coaching vs. Boston...what would you tell the guy defending Ray Allen to do? Help out on Pierce, or stay on Allen no matter what. There are better options to help off of on Boston's roster...

Paul Pierce and Sam Cassell would be top two options (the guys I'd want to have the ball with the clock running down)...with the idea to get the ball to Allen if he comes open.

KG won more than both of them.

How many playoff series did KG win in Minny?

How many playoff series did KG win in Minny?

Only two that I know of. It was when they advanced to the conference finals against the Lakers in '04.
