April 28, 200818 yr Yeah, woodson has mechanic problems but still proved to be a good QB through a very tough SEC. What I'm saying is Alex Brink better than Woodson for Houston to have taken him? I know it was in the 7th but why not just take Woodson in the 6th if they were thinking about taking a QB. I understand what your saying, but you need to understand that the NFL is waaaay tougher than the SEC could ever be. Those "mechanic problems" are the difference between success and failure. There is a very distinguished list of guys who were very successful in the best conferences in the country that made horrible NFL QBs. Off the top of my head, Rick Mirer, Tommy Frazier, Eric Crouch, Charlie Ward (similar comparision IMO). Look at guys like Matt Cassell, who never was able to crack the USC starting lineup, yet he is QB2 behind Tom Brady. Or Donovan McNabb, who was an option QB in college.
April 28, 200818 yr You also said that you didnt think Woodson would get drafted at all... Given the panic of UK fans at the slide, it looks like a very solid stance...

It was inevitable that Frazier, Crouch, and Ward would never pan out in the NFL. We never really did know with Ward though as he obviously chose basketball over football.
April 28, 200818 yr You also said that you didnt think Woodson would get drafted at all... And I was called crazy for saying so, yet how far off was I, really? If you really want my opinion, Woodson would have been better off not getting drafted than getting drafted into the situation he is in now. He is, at best, going to be a practice squad guy for at least a few years with the G-men.

McNabb was not strictly an option QB in college. As a matter of fact I think he was more of a passer than a runner.
April 28, 200818 yr Given to panic of UK fans at the slide, it looks like a very solid stance... I don't think anyone really thought that Woodson would not get drafted. I think we all knew no matter how far he fell someone was going to look at the value of getting him in the late rounds when he was once a top 5 consideration. I mean, UK fans wouldnt jump to conclusions, exaggerate, or go off the hinges over something would they? Would they?

He has the chance to be a back up in New York, and if he is put on the practice squad, he's free to sign elsewhere anytime.
April 28, 200818 yr McNabb was not strictly an option QB in college. As a matter of fact I think he was more of a passer than a runner. :thumb: He was a passer who could run. Not a runner who could pass like the Frazier, Crouch, and Ward were.
April 28, 200818 yr Only time will tell, but I believe that teams have realy made a big mistake on Woodson. Its like Coach Brooks says, its not an exact science. And yes I know he is taking up for his guy, but I believe Woodson could make the argument that for the past 2 seasons combined no one in the country has performed much better if at all at the collegiate level. I maybe wrong, but it absolutely does not make sense to me with Woodson's fall.

I'll give you that you weren't terribly far off, although I dont think there was any chance he wouldnt have been drafted this weekend. I'll also give you that he may have been better off not getting drafted than falling into this situation. However, you are really reaching now. At best practice squad? Think about that for a minute.

We never really did know with Ward though as he obviously chose basketball over football. UK does NOT run anything close to a "pro style" offense IMO. There offense does closely resemble the FSU offense circa Ward, with the majority of the plays coming from the shotgun and very little true dropback passing from under center. How many 15-20 yd sideline patterns do you remember UK running from the opposite hash? Because that throw is a staple in the NFL.
April 28, 200818 yr Did anybody else see where former Atlanta Brave fan favorite Dale Murphy's son got drafted fairly early? I thought that was pretty neat.

That is more what I was getting at. I realize there was a lot of offense, but it seemed most plays were called for under center. Andre would then check to the shotgun a lot. Remind you of anyone that plays for the Colts?

Think about this: Many, many 6th and 7th rounders are practice squad guys. The Giants have their starter (Manning), a likely backup (Carr), and another backup they feel really comfortable with (Lorenzen) AND he already knows the system. Now you draft a QB who has mechanic and decision making problems that are going to take some time to fix. What about this situation doesn't scream practice squad?

While there is a small chance he'll end up on the PS, I doubt he does.
