Banning of Dogs

Featured Replies

If you can a license to do so, then whatever.

Are there no bans on owning lions? All I need is a license? If that's the case pit bulls shouldn't be banned either.

Yep. I'm a democrat...but not a dictator. I think that you should be allowed to make choices, but be responsible with those choices.

So, if those choices can/do lead to damage for/on other people, so be it. You will deal with it after the fact?

Would you be for removing any speed limits? I should be allowed to drive 100 MPH in a school district and only have consequences, if I were to hit an unfortunate child?

My understanding is you have to apply for a license to own such an animal.

I think it might fall under the category as an exotic animal.

A speed limit of 70 mph STILL allows you to OWN a car...something that can cause major injury. Again, provide me with regulations that make me keep my animals and those that might come in contact with my animals safe - just as we do with cars. But, don't take my right to have one away.

I agree wiht the person that said some paint with to borad of a brush when talking about dogs.

I own/have owned these breeds -

Jack Russell(2 currently)

Choc. Lab(currently)

3 Chows

Boxer

St. Bernard

Multiple German Shep.

Multiple Heinz 57

I had one German Shep. attack my cousin when she was 10 and almost kill her, we blamed the dog. When she grew up she told us she stabbed him with a pencil while eating. The dog was chained on his walker as always while eating, so the fault rest on her dad who was supposed to be watching her.

The Chows were wild but all they wanted was attention and they are a lot of work.

The Lab has a mean streak and there is no way I let my son crawl in the floor around the JR's they are too unpredictable.

hmmm..

Pitt bulls, which are the dogs that most want banned, are not bred to be agressive killing machines, they are bred for loyalty and gameness. Dogs that are bred to fight are Trained to show an excelent attitude towards humans while being aggresive to other dogs.

Pitt bulls are just like any other large breed of dog. If they aren't properly socialized or trained, they can become aggresive and dangerous.

When tested by the the American Temperment Testing Society Pitt Bulls grade out at a "Pass" percentage 84.1 percent of the time. The average of all breeds being 81.5%.

Pitt bull owners include:

Jessica Alba

Micheal J. Fox

Alicia Silverstone

Jessica Biel (3 of them)

Cesar Milan, The Dog Whisperer has several that he uses as model dogs in to help him aid with rehabilitation of rescued dogs.

Jon Stewart has 2

Oh and me. I have a Pitt Boxer Hound mix that we got from the humane society when he was a puppy. He has never shown aggresion towards anything, and he never would. That's the way we trained him.

The dog form the little rascals was a Pitt bull.

"By no means are these dogs people-haters or people-eaters. Their natural aggressive tendencies are toward other dogs and animals, not people. However if they are properly socialized they will not even be aggressive with them. These are truly quality companions for quality owners only! The American Pit Bull Terrier is a good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of vitality"

Please read this, and by all means read up on as many breeds as you would like.

It just urks me that so many people make assumptions based on things that they've seen in there own small little world, then go on assuming that this is the way it is everywhere absolutley. Read up people.

Not directed at anyone in particular, just at people in general.

Excellent post. I was almost certain that the "Little Rascal" dog was a pit bull, but didnt' want to post it without verification.

There are things that for the benefit of society and the safety of society that you should not be allowed to have in certain areas.

Guns in schools are examples of one.

To paraphrase Sam Elliott in Tombstone....

No one is saying that you can't own certain types of dogs.

We are just saying you can't own them in town.

If you want to own a certain breed of dog, move to the country where you are not putting others in danger.

Not directed at anyone in particular, just at people in general.

Feel free to direct it at me. I stand by my opinion that pitbulls are dangerous and serve no purpose that can not be replaced by a less volatile breed.

Which breeds? Who has the right to decide that for me? I am tired of being a responsible citizen in which people try to take my rights away.

I don't own a pit bull, haven't every owned one, probably won't own one. BUT...if I take the responsible steps to own one, I should be allowed to do so. The breed receives a bad rap...again - a stroke too broad.

Okay. Back to the original point of guns and pit bulls. You can own your pit bull if I can own the gun. If your dog gets loose, I can shoot it. If my gun gets loose, you can sic your pit bull on it. Seems fair to me.

Did anyone read my post, or the link it contained?

Okay... I have heard that Falmouth has this ban.

Do we have anyone from Falmouth on here that knows anything about this, and can shed some light on the language used for this ban.

Is it strictly a ban or do you have to pay a license fee to own one in the city limits or?
