I like some of Lil' Wayne's stuff, but no way could he be considered the greatest ever. I cant even consider putting him up there with 2pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Snoop, etc.

Wow one of the greatest rappers in his time, if not the best. When you make a statement like that it just shows you don't know what your talking about.He has alot of awards, money and fame to be terrible.

Please list something he has "rapped" about that is really good... What of his stuff do you think is good? And what makes it good? His lyrics are full of filth, it promotes nothing good from what I have listened to.

He is also someone that uses his lyrics to blame the Fed. Govt. for Katrina...

Lil' Wayne is not even close to the best. Not much of what he ever says is important, meaningful, or relevant to anything. What has he done to prove that he is "the best?"

You're right, but maybe some of the things he says are significant to someone else. But what do all rappers rap about? The same things. I honestly enjoy Lil' Wayne's material because of the way he puts it down, and his creativeness. He's an amazing freestyler, and the way he presents himself is appealing to many people. Maybe it was a stretch that he's the best of all time, but right now in 2008 he is.

To each his or her own I guess. I just honestly cannot, for the life of me see how any of these "rappers" are considered talented..........unless you count cursing, degrading of women and minorities talent.

I do agree that "rapping" has style and takes skills to rhyme and remember the rhymes, etc... But they go into a studio and record, they play no insturments, there is no harmony, so it is hard for many to consider it real "music"... But it is what a lot of the young people likes, I for one can't figure out why, it does not appeal to me to be a big fan of it....

So back to my point; what good influence is he to young people?

He exploits; women, perverted sex, not ashamed to admit that he is a pot smoker (which is against the law), and his criminal life... We know he loves football, he is from New Orleans, brags about his money, but does nothing good with it. Sounds like a shinning example and mentor to me... That to me is not good entertainment. It is filth, and it also encourages kids to try to be thugs/gangsters (not all kids) ... So commit crime go to prison, become a rapper make millions lay up with all your piles of women and money, smoke pot, watch football, to hades with an education, fly around on your private jet until no one buys your music anymore. Then when that happens fall back on your backup plan, crime.... (that explains Lil Wayne to me)... I for one won't be supporting his income.

 

I could voice my opinion all day long but who would want to buy a CD for $13-$18 to hear it...

I don't need to be "informed", I think that am very well informed or at least as much as I want and/or need to be on the subject.

My opinion is that if someone has to be "informed" about what music (sorry, that was a "uninformed" descripton of rap :lol:)they are listening to then it may not be worth listening to. I want to enjoy music and maybe be entertained by it at times. I don't want to have to take a course on what something is supposed to be before I listen to it or form an opinion on it.

I can understand catchy beats... You hear them on the radio all the time, but the song is horrible or stupid! I understand that ...

 

It actually makes me "cringe" when I really listen to the lyrics/meanings of this type of music, wether it be rap, rock or country. I am just not hating on rap, a lot can be said for some other "artists/perfromers" as well.

I'm not arguing with what your saying by any means... But how many teenagers liked musicians who were really good role models... Its a stage of rebellion thats why all those cracked out rock stars were so popular as well.

I actually thought Bluegrass Music would be some of the hardest music to learn to play.

I have no use for them either. But ya know I guess it takes growing up and becoming an adult and parent to find out what good/bad music is...

There's two different ways rap is done... One is where they write heart felt or thought provoking rhymes (which most rappers fail miserably at). The other is freestyling, which is where they are able to come up with quick witted lyrics right off the top of their head about current events or whatever. JayZ and Pac were great at the first two. Lil Wayne freestyles all of his material. Thats why so much of his stuff is on mixtapes. Even his hit commercial music is results of freestyles when he said something or came up with a concept he liked he'd keep it and then use it for the song.
