I believe Urlacher also returned punts in either High school or College...How'd you like to have to tackle that???

 

When I think of Highlands LBers names like Marty Moore, Corey Scarlato, Mike Mcgraw, and Jeff Kramer come to mind as well. Although I think Kramer played Safety at Highlands and later moved to LBer at UK!!! Either way, I agree HHS has put out some LB's!

You forget some other names in that long and distinguished list, such as Sutkamp (1st team All-State linebacker and punter 1986) and Bill Monfort (1987) Greg Roller (1990), and more recently Brent Grover. :thumb:

Highlands always has strong linebackers, but I would think Trinitys will be good, they got one wearing Scarlet in a few years.

Hello.........did we all forget Bubba Mallery ! The hardest hitter from that position I recall. If I'm not mistaken, he anchored that crew for three years including an '81 State Championship

Ben was a fine punter, but I don't think he was All-State at linebacker; he was mostly forgettable as a linebacker.

 

The linebacker I always looked up to was Jimmy Ulbricht; thought he was one of the best I saw at Highlands. The winner of the LB contest at Highlands was Scarlato though. Marty went on to bigger stages, but Corey was the best linebacker I ever saw wearing the uniform at Highlands. He was nasty.

Jack, I think you are incorrect about Ben being All-State, but I'll find out soon and get back to you. As far as Corey goes, he was an animal and one of best birds ever, but make no mistake, Mr. Moore was and still is the benchmark for LB'S not only at HHS, but quite possibly in the entire state, and not only on a HS level. His combo of strength , speed, football smarts, and leadership were on a totally different level from anyone else of his time as a Bird or a Wildcat. BTW, Ben was only overshadowed by one person in all of the names mentioned so far, and thats Marty. Ben had many more than 1 D-1 offer and went to Louisville on scholarship only to leave when the coach (Schnellenberger I believe) would not let him play punter only like he was promised originally. Ben's dad was none to happy and Ben quickly left only to eventually end up at Thomas More to finish out his career.

^ So the 08 crew is going to be even better than the 07 LB's?? Thats scarey:scared: I thought the 07 bunch played great as a unit...

Marty is definitely the benchmark for HHS LB's and he might have been quick/fast enough in high school to dominant but not in college. Marty was an outstanding player for the Cats but the reason why he was the last pick in the draft and why he mainly played special teams was because of his speed. I will say this about him, I never seen a person with the ability to ALWAYS be around the ball, OUTSTANDING PLAYER. :ylsuper:

Any word on if it is a tournament and if so what other teams will be there or is just a Trinity vs Highlands thing. If so that's a long way to go for 7 on 7

We will see how they match up agaisnt the size of cch's oline they can be fast but can they get around the big kids who can move.
