If Obama believes that local juristictions have the right to enact their own gun bans, does he believe that other constitutional rights are subject to local regulation such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, or freedom of the press? Allowing local jurisdictions to regulate basic, constitutionally guaranteed individual rights is a slippery slope.

 

"I think that local jurisdictions have the capacity to institute their own gun laws…The City of Chicago has gun laws, as does Washington, D.C.," he said. "I think the notion that somehow local jurisdictions can't initiate gun safety laws to deal with gang-bangers and random shootings on the street isn't born out by our constitution."

You know, it's statements like this that make me want to vote for Obama or Clinton purely for spite. Good thing I am strong enough not to do so and will vote for whomever I have determined to be the better candidate. Why do we have to put each other into neat little labels and dismiss each other so casually? What good does it do, but widen the gap between us?

He has secretly been involved in trying to change the gun laws and do away with "semi-auto" firearms for about ten years. He wants to divide and concour by hiding the changes under consumer safety projects.

The ACLU has defended ultra-conservative organizations as well. But then again standing up for civil rights....thats socialism.

Can you cite a few examples of cases in which the ACLU opposed the government's restrictions on gun ownership? Does the ACLU agree with Obama with regard to the DC handgun ban or does it support the rights of DC gun owners?

What's rich is you ignoring the facts in this thread. Let's hear your opinions on:

 

He’s for the ban on semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions.

He supported the D.C. handgun ban, and said that it's constitutional.

In a "1998 National Political Awareness Test," he pledged to support a "Ban on the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons."

He voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers.

He said he opposed allowing ordinary citizens to carry concealed weapons and that a federal law banning concealed carried weapons except for law enforcement is needed.

 

If your not interested then, don't bother, this is a thread for gun owners and what their opinions are of Obama's views on guns.

Unless he can convince Congress to pass laws supporting his left-leaning gun control positions (and Congress is inherently reluctant to make sweeping changes without strong public popular demand), nothing will change. You're trying to stir up an issue where one doesn't exist.
