April 13, 200818 yr Legally, how can a president eliminate an amendment? He cannot do so directly. What he can do is appoint liberal judges and Supreme Court justices who are more receptive to gun ownership restrictions. A president can also sign into law federal gun control bills sponsored by such gun control nuts as Chuck Shumer that manage to reach his desk. What about a national gun tax? Might Congress pass bills imposing high taxes on guns to pay medical expenses of the victims of gun violence? There are many creative ways that an anti-gun president with a sympathetic Congress could make the cost of gun ownership prohibitive for average, law-abiding citizens.
April 13, 200818 yr This is something that I do not understand. Why on Earth would our fellow Americans want someone of a different nationallity running our country? Its not that I'm prejudice beacause I'm not I mean look at his name that right there should tell ya if he gets the top spotin the world that we might as well go ahead and rename the USA to the United States of Iraq and Afghainastan (sp). Two Points: 1) You can't be president of the United States if you aren't a native-born American citizen; Obama was born in Hawaii 2) Why are we concerned about renaming the USA the "United States of Iraq and Afghanistan?" It seems like the imperialist nature of the current regime is attempting to pull both places under complete American control, much more so than those nations trying to take over the US

I believe this is the most racist post I have ever seen on BGP! In fact I think its the only racist things I have seen on here. I may disagree with the local conservatives on many issues, as they do me. But we can all agree that this is a bad thing.

Thank you for the clarification. You'll agree with me that a president can take steps in amendment removal, but it must go through numerous hands.
April 13, 200818 yr I really do not understand why some Americans are willing to dismiss the attacks on one of our Bill of Rights while going ballistic when some small town decides to allow a live nativity scene in the town square. I cherish all of my rights, regardless of whether I choose to exercise them myself. That being the case, I can send you some great literature from the ACLU... you might also want to reconsider your unwavering support for W, if you're that concerned about the Bill of Rights.
April 13, 200818 yr Author Legally, how can a president eliminate an amendment?By getting Congress to change it.
April 13, 200818 yr By getting Congress to change it. And since the NRA is so powerful in DC, that's like saying he could pass a law to disenfranchise voters over 50... theoretically possible, politically impossible.
April 13, 200818 yr Author I think you're going to need some links here, and it should probably be words of his own... something in the recent past would be a plus.Look up Pittsburgh Tribune. It's there.

April 13, 200818 yr From Obama's website: [Obama] will protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport, and use guns for purposes of hunting and target shooting. Takes care of that "but he doesn't say KEEP!!!!" concern.
April 13, 200818 yr Author And since the NRA is so powerful in DC, that's like saying he could pass a law to disenfranchise voters over 50... theoretically possible, politically impossible.Whew, I feel better now. 02Ram54 and H say it can't happen, we can give a sigh of relief. D.C. Ban, the powerful NRA couldn't do anything about the 31-year ban on handgun ownership.

April 13, 200818 yr You can give no guarantee of that whatsoever. I guess the gun ban could never have happened, but it did. Thanks to Republicans, it's gone. You're dead wrong, a president can get CC taken away, he can get legislation passed to ban certain weapons. What about the D.C. gun ban? There were people like you in Germany, England, Australia and on and on..... Wonder what those people have to say now. Just because it isn't important to you doesn't mean it isn't an important issue. Being smug doesn't make you an expert. "He can get legislation passed..." Really? How would he do that? Does Obama know the Jedi mind trick? Would Congress defy the gun lobby and pass such a law without overwhelming public demand for it? The DC gun ban is not a federal law, and it is in fact being challenged at the Supreme Court level now, so that example is really irrelevant to the argument you're trying to make. The scenario you're suggesting is simply not very credible given the legislative process we have in the United States. Oh, and please spare us the ridiculous "there were people like you in Germany..." drivel.
April 13, 200818 yr Legally, how can a president eliminate an amendment? A president can't. Exactly why the premise of this post is so preposterous.
