Former Dixie Basketball Star charged with Parents' Murder

Featured Replies

Wow...shocking. I watched Russ play a number of times when Dixie came to Corbin to play in the CFIT. Russ was the major reason Dixie won the tourney title three times, prompting some locals to say the CFIT should be renamed the Dixie Heights Invitational. Russ was just an outstanding player and team leader.

I wonder if he had a problem with drugs. That is something that often changes someone into a desperate and unpredictable shell of their former self.

Most sad.

Very sad story. I wonder how the rest of the family is doing. They said he had a sister and brother I bet they are shocked that thier own brother killed thier parents. Very sad.

This may come out wrong but why is it shocking? There was no break in and right away the cops thought it had to be someone that knew the family really well. Not even once did they say the people of Grant County or NKY should be on the lookout for a person on the loose who got in to these people house and killed them.

My thoughts exactly.

He's got 2 brothers, 1 older and 1 younger, and a sister. I'm sure we'll hear more in the next few days. The police aren't releasing anything other than his name and charges. They did say he was initially arrested for forging checks, and while in custody, admitted to the murder of his parents.

My thoughts exactly.

The fact that they are arresting him after being rumored to be involved is not surprising, but... If you had ever met the guy while he was in high school then you would find the whole situation completely shocking. He was always a pretty calm guy who didn't seem to get into it with anyone.

I have heard that as well. I know his parents, grandparents, aunt and uncles were always well regarded around here when I was growing up. I am sure there is more to the story. As we all know, certain "problems" can change someone 100% and make them do things they would never normally do. No doubt, if he did indeed do this, he has one of those problems.

Point taken. And I wasn't commenting on the guy or his character. But with hindsight being 20/20 doesn't it always seem that "odd" cases like this always tend to involve "nice, normal, calm...etc" people?

I agree. Often no one really knows what is going on with families/individuals. Some of the most "normal" families have terrible problems/secrets. Look at the Blue Eyed Rapist. Just a normal family guy............Sometimes these awful surprises happen. Appearances are, too often, deceiving. Also, he may very well have been the all American boy when he was in high school. Life and life circumstances changes everyone.

Bad things happen to good people unfortunately.

I thought Russ was the youngest?

Sad story...

Everyone and I mean everyone has secrets. Families as a whole are no different. What goes on behind closed doors is unbelievable and I am sure the Guru as well as any other Law Enforcement officer can attest to this.

I thought Russ was the youngest?

Sad story...

Joe is the oldest boy followed by Russ and then Steve.

Steve is the oldest, then Joe, then Russ.

I was just getting ready to correct myself. For some reason I kept thinking Steve was the youngest, not the oldest. It's been a long, long week. :creepy:

Really all I can say is I'm praying for Russ and his siblings. Really makes you wonder if they knew or suspected him at some point. I can't even imagine. Graduated the some year as Russ and played a few pick up games with him and knew alot of the same people even though we went to different schools. Still can't believe it. WOW.
