March 24, 200818 yr When Barak Obama used the term "typical white person" in a speech were you offended?
March 24, 200818 yr No, b/c I listened to the whole comment and what he was saying made perfect sense. "The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person, who, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know, you know, there's a reaction that's been bred in our experiences that don't go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way, and that's just the nature of race in our society." -- Barak Obama

I guess thats why I question it.
March 25, 200818 yr Nothing said by somebody who I do not know during a campaign actually offends me. However, I make judgments about people, not so much as by what they say but how they handle themselves after making a gaffe. Obama's response to being caught attending a racist church for 20 years has been very telling about his character, IMO.

March 25, 200818 yr I try not to let my panties get in a bunch just because someone isn't being politically correct.
March 25, 200818 yr Never offended by what people say. Everyone has a right to speak their minds. Problem with the world today we are caught up to much on who is hurting someones feelings.
March 25, 200818 yr Here Here .. I agree too. I have got pretty big shoulders and as long as someone is calling me names or talking about me their leaving everyone else alone. ;) This world we live in has to many thin skinned people in it. I had a gentleman on another sports site tell me that I was a walking idiot and that if he ever saw me he was going to smack the mortal daylights out of me.:lol::lol: He don't know me from adam. He got mad at me for something I posted about the Giants winning the super bowl. Of course I'm a 49ers fan ... not that it isn't obvious but ... he took offence. He never used those exact words but I won't post exactly what he said.
March 25, 200818 yr I try not to let my panties get in a bunch just because someone isn't being politically correct. Can we quote you the next time one of us says something we shouldn't in P & R.:sssh::lol::jump::banana:
March 25, 200818 yr It offended me and I need reparations from it. Just enough to pay off my home mortgage would suffice.
March 25, 200818 yr Not offended at all but it did point out the double standard that Obama can say things Clinton or McCain cannot.
March 26, 200818 yr Not offended, but it was a ridiculous statement. How exactly would he know the feelings of a "typical white person"? In fact, what is a "typical white person?" Just someone who fears being on the street with an approaching black man? Is that all it takes? I guess I must be an "atypical white person," since such a situation does not create any knee-quivering feelings of dread within me. And what exactly does this make Jessie Jackson, since he also has these same feelings? And since there is apparently such thing as a "typical white person", I wonder how Obama would define a "typical black person?" Again, not an offensive statement to me, but I find it to be an utterly ignorant one.
