NFL Could Ban Hair Flowing Out of Helmets

Featured Replies

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is known as much for the long hair that goes halfway down his back as for anything else. But Polamalu and other NFL players may soon be banned from exposing long hair on the field.

Adam Schefter reported on NFL Network that the NFL's competition committee is considering a rule that would bar a player from wearing his hair long enough on the field to obscure his name on the back of his jersey. Players like Polamalu and Jaguars cornerback Rashaen Mathis would either need to get a haircut or figure out a way to stuff all that hair in their helmets throughout a game.

I wish the NFL would just build robots to play the games and program them to have no fun.

You don't need to see Polamalu's name to know it is him... I think it is cool seeing his hair fly around like a cape or something.

I agree this sounds a little extreme but I think the NFL has the right idea in keeping the players on a short leash.

They are called the "No Fun League" for a reason.

I'm not sure why, I have a lot of fun watching the NFL. :D

Some things I can agree with, but they are pretty strict as far as uniforms and now hair. I agree with keeping them on a short leash, but they probably go just a little too far.

I think this is ridiculous, Polamalu has his hair that way because of his heritage. I would love to see what he does if they tell him it has to be cut.

He'll cut it. It is a job...I've had to shave my face and cut my hair to work at McDonalds before...he can cut his to earn his millions.

If he can tie it to a religion or a heritage, he might not have to in this country.

He doesn't have to work there...they could tell him to find another job. Rules are rules...

Not true. We have seen rules lifted before in this country for religious reasons. Just not for Christians.;):sssh:
