I know there are different types of turf, what are the costs, generally, of each type? If you could give the costs that schools who have had it installed paid, if someone knows. Starting to think about getting something started at our school. So, I am just looking into how much it would take.

And ... if your school is where I think it is ... you are going to have major issues ever putting in field turf due to the current configuration of the track. The track will have to be redone correctly ... in order to fit everything in. The last estimates that we had gotten for the track (with a standard surface) were between 250,000 and 300,000 (in addition to the turf). Plus .. there are a lot of other things that need to be done at said location as well. To get things right .... and to make sure that everyone is cared for equally (not just football) ... it will be well over a million at said location ....

How is the track configuration compared to Beechwoods current setup? Turf would benefit more than just football. Also, if the funds are raised to install turf, it would not be wrong. I definitely agree on your point about other things needing to be addressed, as well.

Lets put it this way ... the track/cross country program at our school would have a hard time getting used to Beechwood's "square" track. (No joke ... one end has square turns--but it is a definite improvement over nothing). In order to get the track fixed ... and to ensure that the soccer field fits right (which would definitely change if the track were to be fixed) ... everything would have to be shifted significantly away from the bleachers (which is probably a good thing anyway). The good thing about the school in question ... it isn't land locked like Beechwood. (which, even though it limited the project at Beechwood--that also saved money on things like the track--which is not only square .. but also just 4 lanes). It can be done .... especially if everyone works together. The track/cross program at the school in question have some "high money" boosters .. who would probably be willing to help

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Beechwoods total for everything was about $500,000, and Newports was less than that. Does anyone know what it costs these schools?

Johnson Central's is very nice.

Not sure where you came up with 500,000 max ... Also ... there is not a set number that covers every stadium/site. The numbers that I have provided for said locations are not imaginary numbers ... they are numbers that I have experience with. Someone tried to tell me 500,000 for one of the places that I was talking about previously ... which may account for the field turf and part of the excavation. But .. it didn't not account for any of the changes in the layout that need to take place to care for soccer and track. The track changes (that must be made) alone are going to be 250,000 ... at LEAST. (And remember ... nothing is going to happen unless equal facilities are provided with Title 9 guidelines--did not want to open that can of worms ... but it is an issue). The boosters at said school dropped 25,000 to 30,000 last year just to recrown the field ..... so I doubt that these kinds of problems are going to be solved for 500,000 (and especially less). I know that doubleduece will look at things the right way if he is going to put some time into this. However--the path at said school lately has been to care for one or two sports. And that isn't pointed at the administration in anyway. More like--people want to make a lot of changes ... but they account for their selves before they take everyone into account. It will be key to work through the politics and keep ALL the kids in mind as opposed to just pushing the vision of a few certain programs. Again .. it can be done. Since last night .... I have confidence that a certain piece of the program could bring 6 figures to the table immediately. But I wouldn't even want to stress that person out if all the sports/kids were not cared for.
stick1 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I got estimates before and most are in the 600-800,000 range. It depends on different things such as how many lines you wanted painted (soccer etc). The amount of work done before it is laid factors in to different costs. One of the biggest variations of the cost is what you do behind the endzone. If it is turf then it costs much more. If it is some other surface then it costs less. Different fields cost different so it is hard to just throw one number out there. The best thing to do is find out what companies do most of the stuff in KY and get their numbers. Call them and let them know what you are looking for so you can get an estimate. You aren't committed or at least I wasn't to get a rough estimate. In order to get a straight up estimate you have to go a step further and bring them to your place. We weren't ready for that step yet.

Also remember that you can get turf companies to bid on your job. I believe thats why Newport was able to get it for much less than they thought they would need because they had turf companies bid on the project and I assume they took the cheapest company.
