Hazard 50 South Laurel 47

Featured Replies

Well that's true, my point was we can't know that Corbin would surely win over Hazard because they were not there, maybe they are playing horseshoes today.

Yeah, and I bet they almost won!:D

:thumb:My guess is they got two ringers capped, lost a big lead, and came up short at the end of the game.

Good Job Hazard

Les has always covered us well at Lynn Camp. He covers everyone fairly in the tri-county area. If it wasn't for Les, we'd have little to no coverage over here. The other paper does a decent job with football, but only covers us in basketball when we play one of the teams inside Whitley County. Kudos!

I was yankin' at him and the SL faithful some with the first post, Breeze, for the most part. (He picked us to take SL by 3 during the region.) I did not have a dog in the fight today. (Thanks again to the Cards!!!!)

Believe it or not, there is some, not a lot, bad blood there between the two (SL/LC). Mostly some fan/student stuff. Ruffled feathers.

Hazard won and deserved congrats today. They did something the 13th region teams could not do. AND it was basketball. We don't play them much, if ever, in basketball.

DO NOT expect the good feelings to extend to football, Breeze!!!! We haven't forgot how that ended either. Different group, different sport. Just tryin' to be civil here!

Hounds would have won today!:D:p

Bull. No way that can be said with any degree of certainty. Whose to say that the Hounds would not have choked again, just like in the regional finals. You have to shoot free throws well and maintain composure to win the biggest of games and Corbin can't do either.

South should be the favorite til someone proves different. Here's hoping the Hounds can find some way to unseat the Cards next year.

How much talent do the Cards lose now? They have to be losing some talent after the run they have been on the last few years....

They lose two starters, Riley and "big play" Bortnem(man, he has been clutch lately) plus two subs who played a lot.

Today's game was eerily similar to the regional final........except South Laurel missed the shot that would have sent this game to OT as well.

They lose Bortnem, Jones, Duncum, and Price. Key players returning are Matt St. John, Matt Watkins, Zach Smith, Wes Dean and Matt Gilbert. Alot of young talent on the way also......... South Laurel will always be competitive in the 13th region. Big school with alot of basketball tradition.

Don't take it so seriously! Sorry!;)

Excellent game. :thumb: One of the best of the 1st Round. Great defensive battle. This, the Paintsville and Mason Co. games were the best so far. Great intense action. The Elite 8 is shaping up to have some interesting match ups.

Since this thread is about the Hazard-South Laurel game, I think I will post about it. I know that is tough to grasp since everyone else is worried about Corbin and Lynn Camp, but lets see if we can shift gears here.

Anyway....Slow out of the gates really hurt South. I was surprised at how much they concentrated on Whitaker. I dont think any other team will defend him the way SL did. They face guarded him just about the whole game, ran an extra defender at him in the half court a lot to get him to give the ball up, and generally that didnt do too much for them. The score doesnt show it, but Hazard was easily the better team today.

I really don't think that the SL and Hazard thread was hijacked, bell, just sidetracked somewhat. Just talking 13th Region stuff, should've, would've and could've. Region is finished in state play and everyone is now in "what if" mode in the thread, 'cept for Hazard and their posters who play again later.

Already sizing up next year, too.:D

It was hijacked. Compare the number of posts about the 13th to the number actually about the game. Thats what I thought.

Now you've got me doing it.

Back to the game...

Easily, the better team?

Now, that is funny.

South fell behind 9-0 ... missed first seven shots, had a fluke missed free throw get tipped in the air that went in for Hazard and Hazard was easily the better team.

Also South shoots in the 30 percent range and only loses by three .... man, you are right, Hazard was easily the better team.
