Way to go Wildcats!! A tough game right off the bat, but you have to beat the best to be the best. Good luck in the semi's!! Keep carrying the torch for the small schools!!

This is the 46th year that Henry County has held the 8th Region Tournament at New Castle

 

1st Quarter: In a very physical first quarter, both teams came out ready. Gallatin County was led by Zac Jones who put in 6 points with Scott Brown adding 5. Anderson County was led by C.J. Penny with 6 also. Gallatin County led from the start and took a 13-12 lead into the second quarter.

 

2nd quarter: Anderson County tied the ballgame on a Ryan Wells bucket at the 3:30 point. Only 13 total points scored in the quarter. Gallatin County missed a three at the buzzer as the game remained tied at 19 going into halftime.

 

3rd Quarter: Gallatin switched to a zone to start out the third quarter. C.J. Penny scored a quick 6 points in the fist 2:30 to give Anderson County a 27-22 lead. An intentional foul was called on Ryan Wells at the 1:52 mark giving Gallatin the ball and shots. Scott Brown hit the first, but missed the second pulling Gallatin within 2, 34-32 at the 1:32 mark. Taylor Jones hit a bucket with the shooters roll with time running out to tie the game going into the 4th quarter at 38.

 

4th Quarter: Gallatin County had turnovers on two consecutive trips down the floor to start the quarter. Game still tied at the 6:40 mark at 38 each. Zac Jones broke the scoreless streak with a running layup at the 5:41 mark. Scott Brown pushed the lead to 5 with a three pointer giving Gallatin County a 43-38 lead with 4:43 to go. C.J. Penny picked up his 4th personal foul at the 4:09 mark. Trent Maddox with a running layup and foul shot made it an 8 point lead. A couple of three pointers made it a 5 point lead, 53-48 with 2:18 to go. Trent Maddox hit a layup with 23.7 to go giving gallatin a 3 point lead. It came down to two Taylor Jones free throws that sealed the game and the 63-56 win.

Wow! What a team effort tonight. Scott Brown played shut down defense, Taylor Jones was clutch with some very big buckets, Jared Carloton got every rebound when it counted, Zac Jones played a huge role, hitting big buckets, and Trent Maddox once again took control of the game, and had a very big night. What a great game to see!

Also, David Henson did a really nice job, D-ing up on C.J Penny I thought. He played alot of the game, and while he didn't score, he was one of the reasons Penny was held under 20.

One of those things that never shows up in a box score...but, quite often the difference in a team that advances and one that goes home. Congrats to all of the Wildcats!:thumb:
