South Oldham 60 Simon Kenton 51 (8th region)

Featured Replies

Wouldn't have been a candidate to win the 9th last year, come on. Last year they beat all of these teams:Holmes, Conner, Dixie - 2, Campbell, Scott-2, and lost to Cov Cath by 4 and Highlands by 8.

I would think they would have been consider a regional title contender.

Not the top, Scotts not in the ninth, but It still would of been Holmes and Cov. Cath, I don't understand what everyone in the 8th has against SK, is it because they said the 8th would be easier, because if so it is. SK wouldn't of made it to region this year in the ninth, and certainly wouldn't of made back to back regional final apperence the 2 years prior.

They beat a Holmes team that wasn't at full strength, and they would not have been a contender because they would not have even been considered a favorite to make it to the regional finals. With a bad draw they might not have made it out of the first round.

Good luck to the Dragons would be great to match up with your old team from Lincoln in Rupp

The 8th region doesnt even compare to the 9th or any region in the state. Villa Madonna could have a shot to win the 8th region if they were in it and their a sub-par team. Last year should have been their year. If hurd doesnt have shoulder problems at the end of the year and Hester doesnt have surgery and plays the whole year instead of missing half of it, they win an play scott county in the first round of the sweet 16. But things happen and they lost the championship 2 years in a row and this year in the first round. Dont doubt SK for the coming years because i hear they have an 8th grader that is pretty darn good.

As was stated earlier I don't think SK was nearly as good this year as recent years past, 06 and 07 they made it to the 8'th regional final and 03 they were in the regional final in the 9'th. Just didn't have a great run this year.

I expected a bit more from this squad. On paper they looked good, they passed the "looks" test but they never seemed to improve over the course of the season. At times they were very good but they would still find ways to let teams back into games, Double digit leads against Holmes, Boone, Dixie, all ended up as losses.

How far can South go????????????

I think their season will be over Monday night.

The school from Northern Kentucky transplanted to the 8th hasn't been as successful as everyone thought.

Maybe the 8th is tougher than they think. 3 years, still no State.

Good post. It could be the bus ride.

This years team wasn't expected to head down to Rupp, they lost way too many people from last year. The last two years teams could have went and it wouldn't have been a surprise. Had Hester not had his worst shooting game of his career last year they would have won it. The SK teams from late 90's/early 00's would have went to state in the region the way it is now and possibly would have made a trip back then too. Last night's team simply wasn't smart or experienced. There was really only 2 players that had ever seen varsity time and it showed this year. They made many many stupid passes and shot stupid shots. Throw foul trouble on Maegley in and you get a loss. Plus their record was around .500 so I don't understand why people are acting like them losing is such a big deal.

It is a tough gym to shoot in if you haven't played there much. The closer teams have an advantage by playing in the Henry County Invitational and by playing at Henry during the regular season.

Two back to back regional finals is pretty successful if you ask me..

A lot of teams can't reach the region let alone make it to the finals..

That is all probably true, but I think he just had a bad game at the worst time.

Simon Kenton's welcome to the 8th region has not been a pleasant one for Pioneer fans. They have had good seasons but can't get over the hump when it comes to beating some of the 8th region's traditional powers. I also don't believe a Simon team from the late 90's would have faired much better since at that time in the 8th you had Scott County, Oldham County (with a future NBA player on the roster), and Shelby County to contend with. Each of these three teams were head and shoulders above the rest of the region and were just as good as anyone in the state during that time. It stands to reason that Simon will not have a strong run at the regional title for some years to come. There best shot was last year when Hester and Co. were seniors. The year before they were not not likely to beat Slaughter and Shelby, last year the Colonels and Coach Forrest ended their season and this year they really struggled to play with South. Unfortunate for the Pioneer fans who had to think a move to the 8th would make things somewhat easier to advance to the Sweet 16.

Who is the future NBA player?

You are probably right. Shelby has a lot of talent as always. However, Steve Simpson will have a solid game plan with the preparation time he has.

If they can knock down some shots they will be in the game (much the way Gamble kept Owen in the game against Shelby) but I just don't see them winning.
