Best Performance-Jeremy Conner of NCC 10 3pters in the opening game of the year.

Coach of the Year-Dave Faust of St. Henry. He Lost 9 seniors from last years Regional final 4 team. All they did was win 33 District Championship and All A Region Champs

Most Underrated-Eric Thomas of Conner led the Cougars to the Regional tourny.

Most Surprising Player-Todd Krohman of Boone averaged more than 15pts a game and finished in the top 5 in scoring. Also one of the best 3pt shooters in the state.

Best Defender-Arrez Henrerson of Holmes. A lockdown defender. Might be the best in the state.

Mr. Hustle-Grant Pangallo of NCC. Gives it everything just like his proud papa.

Player of the Year- ***Tie*** Arrez Henderson of Holmes and Greg McGraw of Highlands

Best Performance-- Too many to name, but a few that come to mind:

Arrez Henderson's 30 point performance against CCH in the district championship.

Corey Sorrell's 37 point night against CCH in first match up.

Greg Mcgraw's 34 point performance against Holmes.

 

Coach of the Year- Villa Madonna's coach

 

Most Underrated- Terrence Clark (Holmes)

Mr. Hustle- George Grote (Highlands)

I love Arrez. I'm not sure about defensive player of the year. I have only seen him once so not a good barometer. McGraw had 32 against Holmes, and as some have pointed out some came against some one else than Henderson. The reason? He was on the bench in foul trouble. Fouls he picked up while guarding Greg. He may have shut down everyone else he played and that would merit this award. He did not shut down Greg McGraw. Had to be said.

Grote does so much for that Highlands team when he is on the floor. Very quiet and just plays ball doing whatever he can to help his team.

Coach of the Year- Got to give props to the job Willie Schlarman @ Highlands did this year with 2 "crippled" studs and a load of "diaper dandies" (sophs.) Nods also to Elmer Faust, St. H, Coach Henley for keeping Holmes focused, and Villa's coach for getting the boys to step it up this year!

Most Underrated- Eaton from Highlands...nothing but D, grit and hustle...plus gets it done in the classroom, too!!

Most Surprising Player- Stephen Kowolonek @ Highlands. A sophomore who scores, rebounds, passes...very heady player who carried the Birds at times this year. Bright future!

Best Defender-Arrez Henderson of Holmes. We all know the plaudits given to Mr. H on this site. BUT until you actually see him WORK, you really can't appreciate the dedication he has given to this part of his game. Very intense!

Mr. Hustle-Greg McGraw of Highlands. Does it ALL on both ends of the court.

Player of the Year- Whomever steps up to lead their team to the 9th region title should be the winner. There are lots of deserving candidates this year (Henderson, McGraw, Sorrell, etc...) But MY POY goes to the one that'll git 'er done at crunch time!

I was getting ready to say the same thing. You would figure there were better players out there instead of just at highlands. Some of them are true though.

I'd go with Faust as the COY.

Sorrell had the performance of the year against CCH closely followed by McGraw against Holmes.

Hustle: Too many good choices

Underrated: Kowolonek and Pompillio

POY: Sorrell simply due to being the only legit option and everyone knowing it yet still putting up big numbers against strong competition (yes, I know he only had 7 against Holmes). McGraw might be the best player in NKY but he simply didn't play enough games.

Sorrell is POY... why does everyone hate on him? He would do what he did on any team he is the all around best player in NKY and possibly the best shooter in the state...
