I wonder what Walton's game plan will be?? Anyone have idea's on how to stop Simon?? We've played them twice and really haven't been much of a game, with Simon running away with it early, each time, how should Walton defend a team like Simon?

 

Honestly, I don't believe it will matter what Walton's game plan will be. Simon will adjust and make the necessary changes throughout the game. There have been a few teams who have stopped Simon but Walton won't be one of them. Simon just has too many weapons for Walton. They have more than one real scoring threat and Walton will have trouble defending them. Simon knows what they have to do to beat Walton (contain Hargett) and I think their two previous meetings have shown that. I think it will be a long night for the Lady Cats.

They are balanced, good perimeter shooters and solid players at the post. They are difficult to press and score well in transition. To open up the game against Williamstown last night they did not shoot the ball particularly well and I thought that Williamstown's 1-3-1 defense did a good job of putting pressure on the perimeter and defending the post. Williamstown's problem was they could not handle SK's defense and then things just got out of control. I think WV should run a half court zone that puts pressure on the perimeter (1-3-1 or 3-2) and on the offensive end they need to get the ball in hargett's hands as much as possible. She will draw a lot of attention and passes well inside out and into Dixon on the block. WV must stay out of the corners where SK traps so well. It will take a nearly perfect game from WV, but I think they have the talent to do it.

I like your thoughts. What do you think about using the bigs Hargett and Dixon up front against the press to get the ball in and then luse the guards to make cuts and get up the middle, or if you get the ball into Hargett and then set some screens up front she can do some damage if she can get behind the first level of the press. I think your right about using a 1-3-1 but you have to play it right, pressure on the perimiter is a two edge sword with SK's ability to penetrate and get to the basket. I think you have to play it with emphasis on defending the post and stopping penetration. I realize that SK will knock down 3's but you have to give up something the best teams shoot in the high 30's. Just thoughts.

Sounds like either you haven't seen them play or you have been blown out by them and it is sour grapes. And sure they will go far in the region it is all the way down at Shelby Co.:banana:

Wow, seems like your just out to dog everyone. If your a coach maybe you should focus on your own team...or maybe you've been beat and have nothing better to do that talk about winning teams and coaches.

Walton will have trouble on both ends of the court. I would like to see the upset but don't think it will happen to a Stowers' coached team.

Maybe grab 6 or 7 guys off your boys team and put them on the court at the same time??

 

Honestly, Hargett's the only ballhandler that Walton's got that might be physically able to handle SK's defense. The thing that would/could help her is her height, and the ability to throw over top. If the others try that, it'll end up in a steal or a lot of tipped passes.
