Why Do Liberals Think the Way They Do?

The book is NOT slanted, and when the one about those to the far right comes out, I'll post it too. :p

You sure?

Positive. I'm entitled to my views just as you are. Apparently ours seem to differ, which is fine. I'll vote the way I feel and you will vote the way you feel. Why should that be sensitive anyone?

I guarantee it. :thumb:
GDP doesn't always reflect the "standard of living" you have personal income, unemployment, debt per family, etc. You can have 1,000 companies making tons of money and the country their in not have a very high standard of living. I just hate that argument b/c it sounds like people in Europe and the rest of the industrialized world are living in squalor when it's not the case. French folks have lower debt per family than Americans, and every European I've met seems to be a little less stressed about life. When you don't have to worry about paying back huge student loans and don't have to worry about being one big injury/illness from bankruptcy I guess you don't fret much.

I am just curious, I am not asking this to be smart aleck in anyway, but if you are so sure that Europeans have it so much better than us then why are you still living here?

I don't think I've ever taken anything real serious on here. No worries here RTS.:thumb:

On radio, yes. On TV, there are far more to the left.

That's a pretty good question.

If the United States is such a bad place to live then why is it that we have so many people trying to get in that we can't take them all and have a huge problem with illegals. I really wish that everyone that points to the way they do things in Eurpoe as the panecea for all the worlds woes would just move there.

Oh the good old never think something can be improved about America otherwise you're not patriotic bit. There are some things that the rest of the industrialized world does better than us IMO. I love America but I think we need to see healthcare as a right and not an industry. I just saw on CNN recently where a woman had health insurance, paid her premiums, got cancer, and got dropped from her insurance. We can pay to build bridges to nowhere and attack countries that have not hurt us, but we can't as citizens have a universal healthcare system? Something is extremely wrong with that IMO.

Have you ever dealt at all with Medicare, our government run healthcare system for older adults?

Do you have any idea the beurocratic nightmare that program is for providers? Do you really believe that a universal plan run by the government will be any better?

Why is it that if Medicare is so great most if not all people with it still have to carry a supplemental policy to cover what it doesn't?

If that's an example of how the government will run a healthcare system then I want no part of it.

We could improve it. In Canada you simply go to the doctor, show them your medical ID, fill out a couple forms (like you would here), and wait to be seen. Contrary to popular belief the waiting times aren't worse than in the USA, other than in the extremely rural parts of Canada that only gets a doctor in town once a month. We need a national computerized health database that all doctors can see which will lower cost and streamline things. That's something us "liberals" are trying to get done. A universal healthcare system like Canada's would mean that the physicians bill the government and no you or the health insurer. The paper work on your part is minimal and on the side of the physicians, it's reduced by doing everything online in the national database.

What? I didn't say anything like that.

I still want to see those numbers on Personal Debt you alluded to earlier. Also, I agree that the US has some changes that could be made, just not the dramatic changes that a lot of liberals believe will improve this country.

Ask Canadians why they come here for surgical procedures. Ask Canadians why, unless it's something minimal, they come here.

The Canadian model of socialized medicine is the primary reason I feel that America should adopt a modified version, and not the exact version. Frankly, for many countries, the socialized healthcare model is flawed. The wait for services is long, even for life-saving services. Those that are skeptical based on those models are correct.
