I've talked to several people in Mt. Sterling who have said, "I'll just be going to the Boys game on Monday." Makes sense from a financial standpoint.

 

Not sure why it would make sense from financial standpoint as where do you get your monies worth watching Montgomery boys ranked 2nd vs Paris at bottom of the region or watching Montgomery girls ranked 1st playing against the only team in the region to beat the Lady Indians in Bourbon County. Should Montgomery County Lady Indians make the regional tournament(which I think will happen), based on the financial standpoint thinking with the 40th District Tournament layout, the Lady Indians won't have too many in attendace should they make the regional tournament. If its a strain to go from Mt. Sterling to Winchester, then its a no brainer that you don't go to Northern Kentucky for the regional.:eek:

I believe it was Clark Co. who had the opportunity to allow another district team host so scheduling wouldn't be a problem but would not change the venue.

 

It would have been so simple to play both girls 1st rounds on Monday (as last year both 1st rd games were played the same night) then on Tuesday paly both boys 1st round games, then girls final on Wednesday and boys final either Thursday or Friday. With this scenario, the two girls team competing in the regional would have at a minimum four days to prepare for the regional and the two boys teams would have a minimum of three or four days to prepare for the first regional game. Back to the play at GRC that week, it does not start until Thursday night. Therefore, there would not have been any conflict with my paln. Of course the only explanation I can think of for playing only one first round game each night goes back to money, more dates for gates equals possibly for more money. But that scenario will not play out, as people are going to pick one game and go to it, and not attend the later game at the other site.

If you have a double header then those 3 officials work the first game of the double header only. With all districts in play the officials assigned for the second game at least by ranking will not be as good. With 4 of the top 6 or 7 teams in the region being in the 40th district I am sure they want the same quality officials for both games. Only way to accomplish that is by playing 1 game a night.

That is a valid point. But those three officials that are calling a boys game at Montgomery at 6pm on the 25th could be calling the girls first round game at 8:30 that same night! Wouldn't that make sense? Instead of having one three official crew at Mont Co and another at GRC, why could not both crews be at one place and do both first rounds games in one night as a doubleheader? I guess it makes to much sense.

You are completely missing the point. For the girls region, they won't be playing the boys region on the same night. Therefore fans won't have to choose between going to the girls game or the boys game. If that were the case and fans did in fact have to choose, I'm sure that travel expenses would have a bearing on the decision for some, but certainly not all of the fans.

Don't believe I am at all, but I will just leave this conversation by saying there is no way you see better basketball despite whatever the cost is by viewing a Montgomery vs Paris boys game when you have the 3 time defending girls regional champion playing a team that has pulled a huge upset earlier in the season the same night. I am not being negative, I just can't understand why cost matters come tournament time and especially when you view a Montgomery vs Paris boys matchup instead of the MC vs BC girls matchup that has the makings to be better.

I really think that is terrible to have the games being played the same night at different gyms, even thought they may be close. They seem to forget that an important part of sports is the fans and some of the fans will pick one or the other to go to for several reasons - money, time, etc and that is not fair to the athletes. I think this horrible and if this happened in my district I would be calling the administration and asking why this happened. (If the tourney in your district is run like ours 56th, the host school holds the district meeting and the coaches vote on times and days to have the tournament.)

The tournament could have went on to the next school in the rotation but is my understanding from talking to some people that Clark did not want to give it up. With that schedule, you would have had large crowds each night and the girls finals would have been done before the GRC play even started. Just does not make sense to my pea brain!!

This is all well and good, but if the play hadn't been scheduled, the format would have been

Montgomery Co. v/s Paris boys on Monday @ Montgomery Co.

Girls doubleheader on Tuesday @ GRC

GRC v/s Bourbon boys on Wednesday @ Montgomery Co.

Girls finals on Thursday

Boys Finals on Friday

 

*** The only thing that may have changed on this is if the girls decided to play on Monday and Tuesday to avoid the new BBA rule about getting the left-over officials if you play a double header.

 

As you can see, the only difference for the family of 4 from Montgomery is that they would have spread the $ out over 2 nights instead of 1. It's not as simple as Mr. Manley would have people believe. I'm willing to bet he doesn't know all the facts.

That makes alot of since. Having both girls games on the same night and guys games on the same night really make more since imo. It's all about the money I guess....

 

So which game should be played second and take the weak officiating crew?

 

The BBA has almost guaranteed that there will be no double-headers in district tournament play.
