Pretty much everything has been covered, Mason Co comes out and sleepwalks through the first 11 or 12 minutes of the game. I believe Clark Co had an 18-12 lead.

 

Clark Co hit some big outside shots early, playing good defense and not turning the ball over. The Royals started their run and it went from 18-12 deficit, to 29-20 halftime lead and then the 2nd half played out with more of the same.

 

I was impressed with Clark Co's defense and speed at times, moved the ball well, just couldn't hit anything after getting the lead early on. Nice win for the Royals and now FINALLY the game I circled on the calendar back in December.

 

A few pointless side notes:

I got a chance to congratulate Jackson on going to Georgetown.

I got a chance to talk to BGP member Big Slick during the half, that's why you have to wear your BGP shirt to the game, so I can bother you. I enjoy talking and talking.

 

AND I got a chance to pass Darius a ball before the JV team warmed up, I truly felt like someone special for those few seconds. :lol:

 

Royals won the JV game by 15, ugly game on both sides though. Both teams turning the ball over constantly and the refs couldn't decide if they wanted to let the kids play or call everything.

GRC sticks around for a little bit but Mason is to much in the end. This should put an end to the discussion of who's number 2 in the region, go indians!

In the end, the best team won and that is not a surprise to anybody. But when you shoot around 25% and less than 50% from the free throw line you aren't going to beat many people...especially one of the top teams in the state.

 

One huge turning point in the game,imo, was where GRC was up by 1 or 2 points midway through the 2nd quarter. Mason was on a fast break and threw a pass up ahead and Masons' player had BOTH feet out of bounds(it was clear as day) and out of bounds was not called and it ended up a bucket for Mason. The whole gym was either complaining about the call(Clark fans), or laughing at the fact it wasn't called(Mason fans).. I even think the refs knew they missed that one..But that set the momentum for Mason who went on a 6-8 point run after that to close the half up a comfortable 9.

 

GRC just wasn't hitting their shots tonight and Mason made the plays to win the game, plain and simple. But honestly, I don't think Mason is playing nearly as good as they were earlier in the season...and really don't think Mason Co. will have a walk in the park like most think. Montgomery Co. is more than capable of beating them if they are on top of their game and Mason Co. is off...

Clark was hitting early in the game and then Mason stepped up the on ball pressure. And then they couldn't buy one, especially at the stripe.

 

Yes, the refs did miss the out of bounds call. It wasn't both feet, it was half of a foot, but either way they missed the call. Granted all 3 refs were out of position because it was on a fast break and the refs hadn't made it back down the court and couldn't see it. And the momentum didn't change because of that missed call, it changed because Clark couldn't handle the Royals pressure.

 

I don't think any of the Mason Co. fans are thinking they have a walk through the region. Because we all know what can happen...

I think the refs in the 10th and 11th haven't been as good this year. Not just favoring one team. But just very inconsistent, and missing a lot of things. At times, not even seeming to know the rules. You also see this in college more. I just wonder if the players are getting to a higher playing level faster than the refs?

Just got in from Louisville; congrats to the Royals. Some tough games are coming up before the post-season begins. 15 for King is nice - he has played some really solid basketball for Mason County this year; and his shooting percentage; especially lately, has to be way up there.

 

Watch out for Clark County in a year or two. Mason has the experience this year; things will even out soon enough.
