February 11, 200818 yr Author Obama has now won 20 of the 31 states going into the MD, DC & VA elections. Does anyone have the total number of votes for the candidates (McCain, Huckabee, Obama & Clinton)? I have looked but I dont know of many good sites for election stuff.

I have looked but I dont know of many good sites for election stuff. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22419475 We could be heading for a situation where Obama actually wins more states and popular votes than Clinton, but Clinton wins because she wins the few heaviest populated states and receives more delegates. I think we saw that happen oh about 8 years ago when Al "Lock Box" Gore got more popular than votes than that other guy.
February 11, 200818 yr Your question confused me but I'm running on 3 hours sleep so that's easy to do today. I think it was from another thread, where you said you didn't own any stock in oil because they were making too high of profits off of society (or something to that extent). I just wondered how you checked out/researched the stocks and/or mutual funds that you do own?

I'm sure the dems really thought Gore's experience would easily defeat Bush. WRONG!! thanks for the site but I still didnt see a "popular vote"

It only goes up through Super Tuesday though. I don't know how this past weekends result impact those numbers.

I couldn't find anything online that was very helpful & didnt want to add every race manually. thanks for your help!!

February 11, 200818 yr I was too young then. Tech is up a little in recent years and will rise, then fall, then rise.
February 12, 200818 yr I use etrade and don't buy stocks in oil companies it's that simple. I invest in tech stocks mainly. So all of the tech stocks you own make their profits while keeping society's best interest in mind unlike oil companies?
February 12, 200818 yr So all of the tech stocks you own make their profits while keeping society's best interest in mind unlike oil companies? No, they probably are not. But I have a big problem with giving tax breaks to big oil b/c they make billions and billions in profits and don't need breaks. I'm a capitalist but the government needs to play a role in protecting consumers. I like Obama's plan to cut tax breaks for oil companies and for companies that are outsourcing.

I keep hearing about these tax breaks for oil companies. Could you fill me in on what they are?

The house tried to repeal tax breaks last year but I think it died or got vetoed. http://money.cnn.com/2007/01/18/news/companies/house_oiltaxbreak/index.htm http://albionmonitor.net/10-9-95/oilsubsidy.html
February 12, 200818 yr It looks like in 2006 Exxon Mobile paid about 28 billion in income taxes and over 97 billion in all taxes, not including payroll taxes. That was on about 67 billion in pre tax revenue so their income tax rate was over 40%. Net income for that year was 39 billion or just over 10% of sales.
