Marion has been rumored in trades for awhile... Part of me thinks there was some problems with him and the organization...

I can see this being a benefit for the Suns. It gives them a good back to the basket presence, and Steve Nash could help revive Shaq. Amare moves over to his natural 4 spot and takes away the mis match the Suns often saw in who he was guarding. Marion has apparently been complaining and ready to get out of Phoenix for a couple years.

 

With the money Shaq makes, it is almost impossible to find something comparable talent wise, b/c when you get another player making that kind of money they are probably a better player than Shaq right now. It makes sense that it was an unhappy player b/c both teams would like to get rid of the players. Banks is a throw in for salary matching. It gets Marion out of being the 4th or 5th option to the 2nd option in Miami. Shaq goes to a contender who needs a true big guy. It really isnt as lopsided as many would believe at first glance.

Heat would get a GREAT Deal. If the Suns do this I will fly down to Phoenix and punch the GM.

I don't think this trade is as stupid as some say...they've been considering trading Marion already and he's not a guy who can't be replaced, IMO. I think the Suns know they can't win a title with their current setup. By getting Shaq, they might be able to win one. With the style they play and the talent they have, they can rest Shaq much more than most teams could because they won't have to depend on him as a centerpiece of their team. That means, they can save him for when they really need him...in the playoffs, against teams like the Spurs and others in the west.

 

To be honest, I like this trade. Being good isn't enough...winning a ring is what everyone wants, and when you have a chance to add a piece that could give you that without sacrificing the future, then it's never stupid to do it.

 

If Shaq gets the boost a lot of guys do by being traded to a contender, I think he's certainly got enough to give them half a season...if they win the title because of that, then this trade was worth it.

The Suns will be able to rest Shaq and get him healthy before the playoffs. They aren't going to win a championship with the team they have now, so trading a disgruntled, 3rd option for one of the all time greats sounds like a good idea to me. Shaq won't have to score 30 + per game for this team to win. I like this trade for them.
