January 30, 200818 yr John Edwards has dropped out of the presidential race. The question is why he was ever in it. It is unlikely that he could regain his NC Senate seat. He was trounced in his home state of South Carolina. If his own neighbors would not vote for him, what made him think that he had any shot at the nomination?
January 30, 200818 yr Author He has already said that he would not be VP. I wonder if Elizabeth's health has as much to do with this as his low votes. They both said that her health would have no reflection on his run but I think that deep in our hearts we didn't exactly believe that. He is suppose to speak sometime today and I suppose we'll know more then.
January 30, 200818 yr He said No.He has already shown that he adds nothing to a ticket. NC went to Bush in 2004, so there is no way that Hillary or Obama will offer a spot on the ticket. It is more likely that he is angling for a cabinet post. Maybe Democrats will create a Department of Ambulance Chasing for him.
January 30, 200818 yr This helps Obama IMO. He will gain some, if not the majority, of Edwards' voters. I think if Edwards tries hard enough he could get his NC Senate seat back, otherwise I'll invite him to move to KY to run against McConnell or Bunning.

I thought I heard on the radio this morning that somebody was running against McConnell...can't remember the name... Bruce Lunsford
January 30, 200818 yr I'd vote for a sack of rotten potatoes over McConnell any day. But that's an issue for another thread.

I wouldn't have much to add to the issue...it just so happened that I heard that on the radio this morning. Steve Bashear asked Lunsford to run and he eventually decided to do it...I don't keep a close eye on these things. It was just the coincidence of hearing it on the same morning that you mentioned someone running against McConnell. :thumb:
January 30, 200818 yr He said No. Stupid decision on his part. If a Dem wins and he is the running mate, he stands a good chance of being their next presidential candidate of choice.

I really hope he changes his mind and if Obama or Hillary asks him to be their running mate, he accepts.
January 30, 200818 yr IMO the VP will either be Richardson or Wesley Clark. Most likely someone not even in the race.
