January 25, 200818 yr If they really want to stimulate the economy, the rebates should only go to individuals making $9 or less an hour and singles under age 25. They'll have that rebate money back in the economy within a week. Sadly, you are exactly right.
January 25, 200818 yr The rebate will probably be based on your 2006 return. So its possible that you've had another child in 2007, which you would get another $300 for. The only way to reconcile this would be on the 2008 tax return. You would report a credit of $1800 and say you've already received $1500. Do most people on here get a tax refurnd? Isn't that loaning the money to the government at 0% interest for a year? I would rather keep most of my money until April 15th, not the other way around. JMHO

It's actually not a bad idea for people who can't save no matter how much they make.

You suggest that and you are going to be barbequed in the press. And if you want the money spent, it is smart to give it to the poor. They are going to spend it and send it right back into the economy where a good portion of us have said we are not doing that with the rebate.

Your question is an insult to those people.

Lowering the corporate income tax rate and balancing the budget would go much further toward preserving American jobs than bipartisan stunts like this rebate sham. Our national politicians apparently believe that we are morons and there is little evidence that they are wrong.

The rebate is being paid in Chinese Yuan.
January 30, 200818 yr The more I think about this, the more I think this package is a horrible idea. Where is this money coming from? One of our biggest economic problems right now is the devaluing of the dollar, and this certainly isn't going to help. And of course, W wants to spend more money in Africa. When do we get to see some fiscal responsibility?
