January 24, 200818 yr It would mean a refunds for tax payers of $600 for individuals, $1200 for couples, and an additional $300/child if you have kids. Anyone that made $3000 or more in 2007 but did not have to pay taxes would only see $300. Thoughts? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,325192,00.html
January 24, 200818 yr I will, of course, take it, but I'm not sure I agree with it as fasr as boosting the economy. We need to find a wa to curb people's addiction tobuying things they can not afford before we give them more money to go do so. Just my opinion, obviously more will disagree with me and that's fine.

I agree. I would rather see the $150B-$200B spent on something like this instead. http://www.unh.edu/p2/biodiesel/article_alge.html

However, I'm just glad I'm not alone in thinking this is not the wisest move.

Ending deficit finance trips to the mall to buy more things we don't need is what should happen. The free market economist in me says let the marketplace sort itself out. It is much more efficient than any stimulus package will be. It may cause a little pain, but what doesn't kill you usually makes you stronger.

I agree with you. I'll take the money, but I think the rebater or whatever they're calling it is a bad idea.
January 24, 200818 yr If you would look at the stock market the past 2 days, they think that it’s a good idea. I don’t like the idea of someone who doesn’t pay any taxes will still get a rebate.
January 24, 200818 yr I don't want to seem ungrateful, because I'll always grateful for free money. But, this is giving us money when we have a projected ~$219 deficit. Any recession will not be staved off if we spend our $600 bucks on crap we don't need! I don't have confidence that everyone will do the responsible thing and pay bills. I see people taking that $600, buying something they don't really need, and then charging the rest. I'm no finacial genius, but I thought I understood that recessions were more to do with our financial strength in the world markets, levels of deficites, values of loans, etc, than consumer spending...??? Again, I'm no where near a financial genius...more like a financial idiot!
January 24, 200818 yr Please, please please; remember that you'll be giving this back in 15 months when you file your 2008 taxes, unless you're one of the people not paying taxes already. Translates into another welfare program for them.

January 24, 200818 yr Somtime in June, just in time for vacation! Cool. We can afford to go to Mt. Olivet for summer vacation now. Serious question though, how efficient is it that it will take close to 6 months to write the check and mail it out? Think my creditors will take that time period of paying my bills?

I read that they have to wait because the IRS is too busy with '07 tax returns. This was around the same time that Bush had the checks sent out in '01 (I think it was '01??).
