Dixie Heights 69 Highlands 38

Recommended Posts

Enquirer had it at HHS.

They are playing in the "Kenton Cty. Classic". One has to ask why it would be at HHS. But then again why is a Campbell Cty. team playing in a Kenton Cty. Classic? And remember whoever covers the NKY basketball does a terrible job at locations, times, names, etc. There's a reason why Wildman Walker calls it the "bird cage liner". That's all it's good for.

69-38, final score. Highlands also didn't have McGraw and Simpson.

I understand, but I did not expect a 31 point blowout. Highlands posters are always telling the rest of us BGPers about how good their underclassmen are in just about every sport. I took them for their word. Hey, I'm not throwing stones here, just surprised by the point spread.

Given the absence of McGraw and Simpson the result could be expected, but the margin of victory is a bit surprising. HHS does have several very talented underclassmen and a couple of senior leaders in Hurtt and Eaton. The Birds are going to struggle a bit until a least one of the two injured players can return.

HHS has been able to compete well when at least one their two scorers (McGraw/Simpson) are on the floor. They are talented enough players to draw the attention of the defense and allow for the other younger players and role players to be effective. If both scorers are unable to play the defense can focus more attention to Steve K. and therefore points will be hard to come by.

No McGraw...No Simpson = Bird's should be underdog vs...anyone! Being there's a bout of sickness running through HHS...COULD have effected some of the other players. All that whining aside, congrats to Dixie for putting it on the Birds. Playing a stretch of back to back to back...to back games with depleted bench...yikes! Gotta expect one of those games to be a "clunker"! Re-focus and come out firing tonite!!

These games that Highlands plays without Simpson / McGraw are not only giving other teams a 25 pt spread right off the bat but also taking Sr. offensive leadership out of the mix. Hurtt and Eaton are very nice role players and good Sr. leaders but offensively they are not going to get much done and like Stinkyboy said, it allows teams to try to shut down the only offensive person they have in Kowolonek.

The reason Highlands is playing so well is that they had 3 scorers on the floor during their 13-2 run. Now they have 1 scorer just as they did last year and a bunch of sophomores. Take nothing away from Dixie either, they are a very good ballclub who can compete for the 9th Region crown.
