Wow, this thread is a blast from the past. Just as I posted almost 4 years ago, I still don't like Ky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Others I don't like include Bud Lime, Corona (drink Negra Modelo instead), Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

First off that is my most favorite style beer. Secondly Sierra Nevada does a pretty good making quality brews.

I had some Green Chilli flavored beer at a beer festival in Colorado once. Couldn't even swallow it.

I'm not a "hop head" , so not a Sierra Nevada fan. I tend to like the malty dark German biers the best (i.e. Warsteiner Dunkel, Einbecker Ur-bock, Kostritzer Schwarzbier).

If it helps, I DO like BBC's Bourbon Barrel Stout!! The bourbon taste in the BBC stout doesn't overwhelm the taste like it does in the Ky BBA (jmo).

Along those lines, I ran across a sixer of Hudepohl Amber Lager at my local liquor store over the weekend and picked it up just out of curiosity. I was less than impressed.

 

I'm just skeptical of any of those old-school cheap-jack local beers (Hudy, Christian Morlein, Falls City, etc.) that are "reinventing" themselves as a premium beer producer. If they couldn't get the basic American-style water beer right, why should we believe they can get the good stuff right?

I'm actually pretty fond of the Hudy Amber Lager...and not in a "look at me being a Cincinnati hipster while I drink my Hudy 14K" kind of way.

In Falls City's case, they're brewing an old Falls City Ale recipe from the 1930s, not the cheap lager they were making when they went belly-up. It's also a new brewer with no relation to the old company. They simply purchased the name and the rights to this old recipe.

 

It's really quite good.

Anyone tried the Big Flats stuff they're selling at Walgreens? It's pretty nasty and at about 50 cents a can, that makes perfect sense.

I'll readily admit that I can swallow down most bad beers without much difficulty. Don't get me wrong, Big Flats wasn't anything close to being a "good" beer, bit it wasn't terrible by any stretch either.

It would have to be better than the pee water Sterling Brewery was putting out.
