500 boys and I'd guess 50%+ play in the IBL. Its a big deal.

 

 

326 out of about 500 students at Cov Cath play in the Intramural basketball league. . Its huge. Friendly trash talk all week at school and especially Mondays after the heated Sunday night battles.

I don't know who runs it now. Mike Clines used to run it. Seniors get to referee - and I use that word in the loosest sense possible. Its not often you see a ref hanging out by the scoring table while the ball is down at the other end of the floor.

 

 

Nicholas Hovan Runs it now. Seniors or Juniors can referees and there are two referees along with 1 scorer and a scoreboard keeper per game. There is great talent in this proficient league and is taken very seriously.

Week two of IBL and there are some games tonight that could set a tone for the rest of the season. First either team Shouse or team Wehry will be knocked down to 0-2 (most likely team Wehry). Also after barely squeaking out a victory in week one can team Furnish get another W to remain as the current favorite?

I'd say most schools have intramurals. Highlands does. Hmmm wonder what kind of team they could put together?

They better be able to dress 40 on each team because there would be somewhere around 100 fouls between the two. lol As much as i would love to see the two champs play, after the "extra activities" following the CCH/HHS varsity game i dont think the schools would agree to that.

Tonight was a huge Sunday night in the Cov Cath gym.

 

Team Burns falls to Team Holocher as Will Deters comes out as the high scorer in that one with about 25.

 

Team Nordman (1-1) knocks off Team Shelton (1-1) 70 - 66 as Pat Van Sant has an off night with about 15. Jake Nordman with 12 assists helps Brandon LaFever drop 36.

 

We'll have more updates for you gamblers who took team Shelton and the 7 1/2 points and team Holocher and the 10 1/2 points.

I believe it reads "BluegrassPreps.com > Boys Basketball", and these kids are Boy's, they are in High School, and the game they are playing is Basketball......so....

If you have never been to a intramural bball game (be it at CovCath or any HS), you really should attend one. These kids have a ball, and while everybody hates to lose, they just love playing the game and understand that it is just for fun and bragging rights at school on Monday....

I didn't say anything negative about the competition. I played intramural sports ( volleyball, flag football, and bball) in college and loved it. I just would have never thought I would have seen the day when I was reading results of games.

In the senior division Team Furnish has the glass pedestal they were put on shattered. Because of a lack of players they were forced to play with no subs which cost them the game. With about 5 minutes to play they had a player foul out and then with 2 minutes to play John Tibbs was ejected from the game. This left them with only 3 players and the rules state you need atleast 4 on the floor so despite their 3 point advantage the game goes down in the books as a loss.

 

Team Shouse gets their record to .500 as they edge out a 58-54 win with Danny Niehaus leading the way with 30.

I dont mind hearing about kids having fun and participating.
