Tubby's not an idiot and neither is BCG.

What does everybody hate one or the other?

 

Tubby was a very good coach at UK. He did great things, but was struggling to keep that going. I didn't want him fired, but I wasn't crushed when he decided to leave.

 

I was glad when UK hired BCG and I still am. I'm going to use the same argument to support him that the pro-Tubby group used for Tubby. He hasn't forgotten how to coach. BCG was Big12 coach of the year multiple times. The Big12 isn't a podunk conference, and BCG has the skills to coach in the SEC.

 

Yes, this season is far worse than anyone expected. And its BOTH their faults. Tubby didn't leave behind the best roster, and BCG isn't getting their best games from them. Add huge injuries and a totally new system, and you've got a bad season.

 

Can't we all just go back to hating UofL, IU, Duke and UNC instead of hating other UK fans? :D

:thumb: I can agree with you on these points. I also was glad that U.K. had hired BCG after Tubby had left, I did not want to see Tubby go but certainly understand why he did. I support BCG bc he is now our coach. I do hope that all of these "off the court" issues/rumors, especially a couple of them are either not true at all or blown waaaaaaay out of proportion. I will continue to support OTS at Minnesota and pull for him except when and if he should ever play U.K., and I will say that I hope that never happens.

I posted this in another thread. Tubby is one of the best game coaches in the business. He let the recruiting slip the last few years and I feel his staff was one of the worst in the business of recruiting. Unfortunately, Tubby being the head man is ultimately responsible for their lackadaisical efforts. I felt he was too loyal to them, especially Hobbs. Billy G. is dealing with what he was given. He has not made excuses, accepting responsibility. UK just has too many players logging too many minutes who are lower level D1 players or D2 players. They do have some good players, just not enough of them. I think about 6 top 10 level players are on the roster. In comparison, UL has 11. By Top Ten, I mean players that would put UK back in the top 10. Billy and Vern on CBS and Bilas and Digger on ESPN have all said the remedy is recruiting. As I have posted in the John Clay thread about Billy G., I was fortunate enough to talk to other College Coaches in Las Vegas and they all said Billy G. is the most dogged recruiter in the country and one of the better Game Coaches. They said the roster will be full of UK type players in two years.

BCG can coach and so can Tubby as mobaar said. I would have loved to see Tubby come back, but he did what he did and is doing good up in Minnesota. BCG can coach as well you see what he did with Acie Law IV. Tubby didn't leave much but that is no excuse to lose to Gardner-Webb! If Jodie would have played they would probably would have one that game, but he didn't an that is nobody's fault and we will all have to live with that the rest of are life.
