Why haven't UK fans learned from the football program?

Featured Replies

Back in the day I said we should sign Rich Brooks to a lifetime Contract...Everyone said I was Crazy...:D

So what should we do with BCG? I say give him a couple of years to build his program. I agree he hasn't been very impressive thus far but I can't help but also believe that there is a method to his madness.

I know he isn't, I'm just saying if he was then they wouldn't be 6-7. No I don't have evidence, but Tubby never did start of 6-7 and lose to Gardner-Webb at Rupp.

I'm just saying. I know he is gone, but he is a lot better coach than Billy G. Because Kentucky basketball fans can't be patient. It's impossible. Football is different. If UK football has the success that UK basketball has, then it would be different...

UK basketball fans and UK football fans are the same people. Kentucky fans in general are impatient and thats a huge problem. Exactly you don't have evidence....so stop bringing it up. You have nothing to back it up, so don't say it

I think fans have learned from the football program. We want to make sure that Coach Gillespie is not Hal Mummy II.

If the basketball team was limited to 10 scholarships, I'd agree... :p

When a coach inherits a roster with Jared Carter, Ramon Harris, and Aki Williams, you could say BCG already is limited to 10 scholarships.

You left out Joe Crawford, Bradley, Meeks, Jasper, Patterson, and Stevenson. He did get those players to, who are really not that bad...

Those would be the 10 scholarships.

When the coach inherits Ron Allen and Ced McGown as the entire roster, get back to me. I will not back down in saying this team has enough talent to be better than it has shown. That's on the coach, and it's on the coach I said was the best guy for the job. We'll see if tossing away wins for the sake of forcing your system pays off in due time. Right now, he could simply be doing a better job from the bench...

And the same was said of Brooks in his first year. Why haven't the UK fans learned from the Brooks blueprint?

Wishful thinking there buddy.

Brooks has close to 257 years experience. Billy G, not so much... :p

UK fans wanted to run Rich Brooks out of town after his first year and even his second, knowing full well they were hit by probation, recruiting had taken a hit, and fielding a team of players not up to standards of the SEC. Problems were brought on by a former coach.

Fast forward to the basketball program. UK fans are calling for BCG's head midway through the first season, knowing their recruiting wasn't where it should be, fielding a team of players not up to standards of the SEC, and trying to overcome problems brought on by a former coach.

There were some UK fans who said "Wait until Brooks gets his own players in and runs his full system." They were right. Back to back 8-5 seasons and bowl wins.

Why aren't the basketball fans as patient, when the two situations are so similar?

I have always thought people should allow themselves the chance to be happy. For those who thought Tubby was being treated unfairly they should take comfort in the fact that if you lose at Ky you are going to get criticized. Billy loses and he does too. And I was a Tubby Fan. Still am.

To answer your question, I don't know. I expected a rough year. I am a BCG fan too. I believe you can be both a Tubby fan and a Billy fan without conflict. I think alot of difference is that the football program was not a premier program for decades but the basketball team was...that Carolina might overtake us again...that we may never attain our status again etc.

I believe in history; and UK's and Billy's are too good to not be successful. This belief helps me keep the firm belief that through these rough times the inevitable and mathematical certainty will happen which is Ky will rise to prominence; with our current coach at the helm. The only way this will not happen with BCG as our coach is if we run him off.
