CovCath 67 Beechwood 51

One thing that I will never understand about the CCH coaching staff is why they don't press more. When you play a team with inferior depth like Beechwood (and most NKY teams aren't as deep as CovCath) I believe you need to press them all night. When CCH came out of halftime, they pressed and immediately got 2 turnovers and bumped up the lead 4 or 5 points.

Number 3 for Bwood impressed me. Alex Hall didn't shoot nearly as well as I expected from what people say about him. Beechwood has some fairly athletic players but no size and not much basketball experience.

Trevor Sorrell dropped 28 points in the JV game- a very inspired effort from a kid going through a very tough time- my prayers are with him, Coach Sorrell, and his family.

CovCath had 23 points off turnovers and gave up 10. Can CovCath fans ever be happy with a win? It always has to be by more points. This CovCath team at full strength is a top 5 team in the state. Can't you people just sit back and enjoy the ride?

You people! What do you mean you people!

Well I was at the game and, to me, it has to do with "more points". It has to do with the way the team plays and what they do to prepare themselves. To me, CovCath needs to become a full court team to really contend for a state title, because I believe they are usually the deeper team, no matter who they are playing. Also, a game like this could be put out of hand earlier with a press, and since CCH has a game tonight as well, it could have been used to rest the starters. Instead, they have to play the entire game because they let Beechwood hang around.

Hey, Bill Belicheck went 16-0 by continually criticizing his team's play, why can't we do the same

The huge difference is Pros vs. high school kids my friend. That's why. When Bondick is on the bench with and injury and Shover is out after three minutes with two fouls, how deep is CovCath then? I'm going to give Beechwood more credit than you are. If the CovCath starters had opened up a big lead and rest the starters as you suggest, this Beechwood team would have gotten back in it and they would have come back in anyway. Trevor Sorrell being one of the first kids off the bench was a class act by Coach Listerman. Beutel was the best player on the floor. With a sub on Alex Hall he would have gone off. Snyder was a beast on the boards. This Beechwood team is much, much better than last year's team that got thumped twice by this CovCath team. There were a lot of factors why this team were not on the top of their game. To be such a harsh critic with the hard week they had I think is a bit over the top.

You are right, CovCath should press more than they do against inferior teams, but at the same time, they better not try the press with Holmes because Holmes will bury their press.

Understandable, but Beechwood is 6-3 with a seven point loss to Boone County and an overtime loss to Newport. With that being said, CovCath probably still should have won a bit more convincingly.

It's hard to tell how good teams really are if they are missing starters. Boone Co. missed 2 starters against Beechwood. Beechwood and Cov Cath missed one starter last night.

If you wonder why I and many others love Coach Listerman as a Coach, a Teacher, a human being and a God loving Catholic/Christian man at CovCath, then please listen to his pregame show prior to the CovCath vs Beechwood varsity basketball game on Friday, when he talks about Kelsey Sorrell....

Thanks, Very emotional. Also what can you say about Trevor Sorrell? Not only being able to play in the JV game, but to put up a big performance under unimaginable circumstances. Thoughts and Prayers to the entire Sorrell family.

Trevor had 28 in the JV game. His cousin Corey had 28 against Ryle.

Suprised it wasn't by much more. But figured Cov. Cath would win kind of big?!

Beechwood is a very solid basketball team, I also assumed it would of been by much more but it doesn't surprise me that Beechwood played it as close as they did.

The best shooter on BW is #3. The Hall kid is more of a scorer than a pure shooter. He does a nice job on the spin move from about 15.

One more thought: The Pohlgeers kid hit a 3 at the end of the game. Why did he not play more?

Four to six weeks...with it looking like four more than six.

If there is one weakest of this years version of CovCath basketball it is playing down to teams. For what ever reason, CovCath just doesn't seem to be able to play a local team to the same level that they do a out of town team. I don't know if they look down at the local teams, or think they don't have to play with the same intensity that they do against the LexCath, Mason County, or Elliott County teams, but they just don't. If CovCath played at the same level that they did tonight against Beechwood, then they would have never beat (in fact would have been blown out of the gym) Elliott County or LexCath much less been in the game against Mason County. I also think they miss the glue that binds this team together very much and that is one Chris Bondick. Look for a much better game tomorrow against Louisville Trinity at

CovCath stats..

Ok, now which is it? In the thread on best coaches in Ky. your all about Listerman. But if this team plays to level of their opponents he's not pressing the right buttons IMO

You do understand, that sometimes the coach can push the correct buttons but.....

WOW!!! 28pts. Simply Amazing......From what I hear Trevor only averages a few a game. I can't even imagine playing, but to have the performance he had and to know she had a hand in the greatest game he's probably ever played is AWESOME.

Everyone should listen to Coach Listermans interview linked above and I agree with Coach L, the only memories I have of Kelsey is simply that blonde haired girl with a wonderful smile.
